According to Spanish rumours, Chelsea is willing to sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid in a swap.

Enzo Fernandez has been heavily criticised for his performance against Bayern Munich. Reports in Spain suggest Chelsea may be willing to split ways with the Argentine World Cup winner if certain criteria are satisfied. In exchange, a Real Madrid midfielder would be acquired, as well as a transfer fee.

Fernandez has been on Real Madrid’s radar since his time at Benfica. And it appears that Chelsea is now considering that option as well.

Fernandez has produced great results under Enzo Maresca’s supervision. However, there are questions about his entire game. He is also not the most athletic midfielder and struggles defensively. Perhaps Chelsea requires someone who is more mobile in that capacity, particularly in important games.

According to Defensa Central, Chelsea is ready to accepting Fernandez’s departure if he expresses a desire to join Real Madrid, but only under particular conditions. The first is that Eduardo Camavinga will be included in the transaction. The second is that Los Blancos offer at least an additional €50 million.

Fernandez’s progress at Chelsea has been interesting, to say the least. Initially, he was regarded as someone who was brought in to dominate the game from the centre of the pitch. He seemed more suited to the task and had some notable performances. The match versus Liverpool on the first day of the 23/24 season springs to memory.

However, under Maresca, he is more of a box-crashing midfielder rather than someone who sets the pace of the game. He barely made five passes in the first half of his match against Bayern Munich last night. That only shows how little Chelsea rely on him to set up play.

However, it appears that there are better possibilities available for this position. But Fernandez adds other things to the table. Regardless of the criticism, his effectiveness is undeniable. He has consistently scored and assisted in his new role. Second, he is a leader who has captained Chelsea several times over the last few seasons. Is that the type of player they can let go now?
