A Hometown Hero’s Journey
Darrell Griffith, affectionately known as “Dr. Dunkenstein,” rose to prominence in the late 1970s as a dynamic guard for the University of Louisville. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Griffith’s athletic prowess and charismatic presence on the court captivated fans and propelled the Cardinals to national prominence.
In 1980, Griffith led the Cardinals to their first NCAA championship, earning the Most Outstanding Player award for his performance in the Final Four. His collegiate success paved the way for a professional career with the Utah Jazz, where he continued to dazzle audiences with his high-flying dunks and scoring ability.

Louisville Cardinals news: new basketball commit, three football locks, and more
The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team has received six commitments this summer, including three via the transfer portal and three from the class of 2025. Jeff Walz’s most recent recruit was Ukrainian centre Yevheniia Putra.
The 6-foot-3 centre will offer elite expertise to the Cardinals roster, hoping to take Walz’s team to the next level. Last season, Putra averaged 8.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks a game for Slovakian club MBK Ruzomberok. Louisville will return seven players from last year’s team, making Putra the 13th scholarship player on the roster.
Louisville football jumped by its ACC rival.
Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals football program have seen their chances of winning the ACC title increase dramatically, and they now have the third-best odds. The Cardinals were recently placed as high as the 16th best team in the country in USA Today’s way-too-early rankings.
However, ESPN sees things very differently. In the first way-too-early rankings, ESPN rated Louisville football at No. 20. However, in the post-spring rankings, the Cards fell two spots to No. 22 and were surpassed by Carson Beck’s Miami Hurricanes.
Louisville football has extra bye weeks in 2025.
The Cardinals’ football season is approaching quickly. We are only 14 Saturdays away from Louisville football’s first game of the 2025 season. With the season soon approaching, we identified three games that the Cardinals should consider wins or extra bye weeks, as they are expected to dominate.
The Cardinals’ schedule includes competitive games against Clemson, Miami, and SMU, but also includes several easy wins. Louisville’s games against Eastern Kentucky, California, and Kentucky should be the easiest on its schedule.
ACC Basketball Power Rankings
College basketball analysts believe the ACC will improve dramatically from last season. The ACC boasts two programs with serious chances of winning the 2026 National Championship and is expected to have many teams in the NCAA Tournament.
The offseason is the ideal time for fans of all programs to make their case for their favourite team and preach why next year will be their year. The ACC has 18 teams, but only 15 can make the tournament, so it’s time to let some fans that their season is finished before it really starts.
While college basketball fans like fantasising in the offseason, we are here to dash any false hopes for five ACC programs. Yesterday, we identified five ACC teams with “No Chance” of winning the conference in 2025.
