Fabrizio Romano Transfer Update: Chelsea Seal Agreement, Barcelona Confirm Nico Decision, Liverpool Finalize Deal
Fabrizio Romano, a football transfer news reporter, has brought the latest news from the 2025 summer window, including updates on Jamie Gittens, Nico Williams, and Jarell Quansah.
Theo Hernandez’s agreement
AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez is due to depart San Siro this summer, and Romano has confirmed that he has agreed to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
“Keep an eye on Al-Hilal because they have an agreement with Theo Hernandez,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel. “They have an arrangement with Milan for €30 million plus €5 million. They are still working on the player side. “Al-Hilal will be extremely active this summer.”
Liverpool deal given the ‘here we go’ attitude.
Liverpool has already signed Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, and one of their current stars is set to join the Bundesliga giants.
“Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen from Liverpool is a here we go,” claimed Romano. These two teams have a strong relationship and are doing a lot of business this summer: Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and a historic signing for Liverpool. Milos Kerkez will arrive from Bournemouth this week, but we must mention Quansah in the opposite direction.
“Liverpool and Leverkusen have reached an agreement for Quansah. The deal is for £30 million, plus £5 million in add-ons. The contract is for five years, and the player’s contract with Leverkusen will include a buyback clause.
“What does it mean?” Leverkusen accepts that Liverpool will eventually possess the player. If Liverpool can re-sign the player in two, three, or four years without having to negotiate. It would be automated. Of course, it’s a significant fee. For the time being, the details remain unknown.
“It’s an important move for Richard Hughes, the Liverpool sporting director, who really wanted to keep control of the player.”
Paul Pogba to Join Monaco
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba is close to returning to football with Monaco. The Frenchman hasn’t played a competitive match since September 2023 due to a doping ban, but he’ll be Monaco’s second acquisition of the summer, following Eric Dier.
Romano admitted, “The time has come for Paul Pogba to join Monaco. The deal is almost completed. There are still a few details to do. This is a two-year deal. Remember, he is a free agent. “Pogba is ready, and the deal is almost complete.”
Barcelona confirms transfer strategy.
Barcelona re-established themselves as a genuine power on the European scene last season, and they intend to back Hansi Flick on the market this summer. However, Romano predicts that two big talents will depart.
He said on his YouTube channel: “Deco has verified that [Wojciech] Szczesny will sign a new deal with the club. He’s staying in Barcelona. Marc-Andre ter Stegen now has to determine what he wants to do because he is no longer Barcelona’s starting custodian. We’ll continue that story.
“In other news, Deco has confirmed that Ronald Araujo will stay this summer, but Andreas Christensen could go. He stated that Barcelona would sell a defender this summer, but it will not be Araujo. Christensen appears to be the likely candidate. He can leave the club if he receives a good offer.”
Barcelona is expected to offload Andreas Christensen this summer.

Nico Williams agrees to Barcelona move
Romano also shared the latest on Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams.
“For the first time in public, Barcelona has stated that they are working on Nico Williams. “He has announced that Nico said ‘yes’ to Barcelona,” Romano stated.
“But they must still find a method to make this contract financially viable with this release provision. Athletic has yet to grant Nico’s request to leave on revised financial terms. They insist on either the release clause or nothing. Let us see what Barcelona can do.
“The Premier League teams’ attitude is that ‘the story’s done, Nico will go to Barcelona’. Bayern Munich in Germany prefers to wait a little longer. At least a couple days. They believe that if the transaction fails, they are prepared to offer more than Barcelona.
“The player wants to move to Barcelona. Bayern’s attempts are ineffective at the moment, but their strategy is to wait.”
Romano added: “Bradley Barcola is highly valued by Bayern. PSG wants to keep Barcola and sees him as a vital player in the project. They are also considering negotiating a new contract with him in the next weeks or months.
“Rafael Leao is also being considered for the role. There are numerous names being discussed.
Chelsea reaches contract agreement.
Finally, Romano provided an update on Chelsea’s interest in Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan.
“Jamie Gittens has an agreement with Chelsea on a seven-year contract,” Romano just disclosed. “It is all ready. They are currently working club-by-club to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea is still moving forward with this deal, and Gittens remains their first objective.
“It’s necessary to include Mike Maignan. Chelsea and Milan have not resumed talks since the agreement fell through just before the start of the Club World Cup. Currently, the Maignan deal is completely off. It’s not progressing. “The situation is very quiet.”
