Fabrizio Romano was compelled to delete one of his Newcastle United-related posts after identifying the incorrect player!

The football transfer ‘expert’ has not been popular with Newcastle fans this week, having repeatedly commented on Alexander Isak’s future amid interest from Liverpool.

The controversy around Isak was one of the reasons Eddie Howe kept him out of the squad for Saturday’s 4-0 pre-season friendly loss to Celtic. Howe is limiting Isak’s minutes since he recently recovered from a groin injury and believes it is unfair for the striker to be sitting in the stands after a week in the media limelight.

As a result, Howe’sent home’ the 25-year-old, who is set to rejoin the squad for their Asian tour. On Thursday, the group will fly to Singapore to face Arsenal before continuing on to South Korea to face the K-League All-Stars and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fabrizio Romano deleted a Newcastle United-related post.

Odysseas Vlachodimos, another Newcastle player, has received the Romano treatment this week, albeit we’re not sure the Italian knows what the Greek goalkeeper looks like!

In reporting that Vlachodimos had rejected a move to Mexican outfit Pumas, Romano posted a photo of Martin Dubravka.

After hundreds of social media users pointed out his goof, Romano took down the message. Nonetheless, the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club couldn’t resist but make fun (see tweet below).

Odysseas Vlachodimos could quit Newcastle United.

If Romano got one thing right, it’s that Vlachodimos can depart Newcastle this summer.

The 31-year-old joined Newcastle for £20 million from Nottingham Forest last summer as part of the PSR scam that sent Elliot Anderson go the opposite direction.

In reality, the Magpies did not intend to sign Vlachodimos, but saw the deal as a way to comply with PSR and escape an eventual points deduction.

Unless United receives a fee comparable to what they spent for Vlachodimos, which is quite improbable, they will only consider loan offers because selling him at a significantly lower price would be damaging to their PSR situation.

Vlachodimos was in Austria with Newcastle last week but was not named in the squad for the Celtic match. He has only played 45 minutes of competitive football since moving to Tyneside, when an injury to Dubravka forced him to play the second half of the Magpies’ 1-0 Carabao Cup third round win over AFC Wimbledon in October last year.

Eddie Howe praised Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Howe has already praised Vlachodimos and his actions behind the scenes.

“He’s been excellent behind the scenes,” he stated in January. “He’s a really lovely lad, a really kind person, and he has a really nice way about him; he’s always smiling and joyful. But you can tell he’s driven, and he’s a very experienced goalie, so I believe he’s contributed significantly to the training group.

“He’s been actively involved in all of our training, and he’s become a very popular member of the club, both on the goalkeeping team and on the first team. So far, he’s been perfect in his behavior around the building.
