Former Preston North End coach dismissed after only six games at the club.
Barrow A.F.C. have decided to part ways with former Preston North End F.C. first-team coach Dino Maamria after a remarkably short spell in charge that lasted only six matches.
Maamria had only recently been appointed by the League Two club, taking over the position last month in an attempt to improve the team’s fortunes during a difficult campaign. However, the club has now confirmed that his tenure has come to an abrupt end following a series of disappointing results.
The decision comes shortly after Barrow had already dismissed another manager earlier in the season. Former Preston North End player Paul Gallagher had previously been given the opportunity to lead the side at Holker Street. However, Gallagher’s time in charge proved even shorter than Maamria’s, as he was relieved of his duties after overseeing just five matches.
Gallagher’s brief spell ended following a run of five consecutive defeats, which left Barrow struggling near the bottom of the table. At the time of his departure, the team found themselves sitting in 22nd place in the League Two standings, increasing fears about their ability to remain in the division.
In the hope of stabilising the situation and steering the club away from danger, Barrow’s board turned to Maamria as Gallagher’s replacement. The experienced coach arrived with the task of reviving the team’s form and guiding them to better results.
Initially, there was a small sign of optimism. Maamria began his tenure with a victory, securing a home win against Colchester United F.C.. That result briefly raised hopes that the new manager might be able to spark a turnaround in performances.
Unfortunately for the club, that early success did not translate into sustained improvement. Following that opening victory, Barrow’s results quickly deteriorated once again. The team went on to suffer defeats against Harrogate Town A.F.C., Fleetwood Town F.C., and Gillingham F.C..
Those losses placed the team back under pressure and left supporters increasingly worried about the direction of the season. While the side did manage to earn a point in a draw with Cheltenham Town F.C., that result was not enough to significantly change the overall picture.
Matters worsened further when Barrow followed that draw with another defeat, this time against Bristol Rovers F.C.. That outcome ultimately proved to be the final game of Maamria’s short tenure as manager.
In total, the 54-year-old spent just 28 days in charge of the club before the board decided to make another managerial change. His time at the helm therefore lasted less than a month, highlighting the turbulent nature of Barrow’s season.
Although his managerial stint at Barrow ended quickly, Maamria has had a varied career within English football. Earlier in his career he worked as a first-team coach at Preston North End during the managerial tenure of Graham Westley at Deepdale.
After his coaching role with Preston, Maamria moved into management and went on to lead several clubs across the English football pyramid. His managerial career has included spells with teams such as Southport F.C., Nuneaton Borough F.C., Stevenage F.C., Oldham Athletic A.F.C., and Burton Albion F.C..
Despite that experience, his time with Barrow has now ended almost as soon as it began. The club confirmed the news of his departure through an official statement released to supporters.
In the announcement, Barrow expressed appreciation for the work Maamria had carried out during his short time with the club. They also extended their best wishes for his future career following his departure.
The club’s statement explained that Maamria had officially left his position and would no longer be responsible for the team. Barrow acknowledged the efforts he made during his brief spell in charge and thanked him for his contributions.
Looking ahead, the club has confirmed that responsibility for the team will now pass to another member of the squad. Sam Foley will step in to oversee the side for the remainder of the season.
Foley will not be working alone in that role. The club also confirmed that he will receive assistance from Simon Ireland and David Worrall as they attempt to guide the team through the final stages of the campaign.
Barrow’s leadership acknowledged that the current season has been extremely disappointing for everyone involved with the club. Frequent managerial changes have contributed to the instability that has affected performances on the pitch.
The board openly recognised that responsibility for the situation ultimately lies with them. In their statement, they admitted that the difficulties the club has faced this season reflect decisions made at boardroom level.
However, the directors also emphasised that they believe the latest managerial change offers the team its best opportunity to remain in the English Football League. Their primary objective now is to avoid relegation and ensure the club’s status in the professional league system.
With only a limited number of games remaining in the season, Barrow face a challenging task. The team must quickly regroup under the temporary leadership structure in order to secure the points needed to stay above the relegation zone.
Supporters will now hope that the club can finally achieve some stability after a campaign marked by uncertainty and frequent changes in management. The focus for the remainder of the season will be on survival and ensuring that Barrow maintain their place in League Two for the next campaign.
For Maamria, the experience represents another short chapter in a career that has already included several managerial roles across English football. While his time at Barrow lasted only a matter of weeks, he will now look ahead to the next opportunity in his coaching journey.
Meanwhile, Barrow must quickly turn their attention back to matters on the pitch as they attempt to navigate the remainder of a difficult season and secure their place in the Football League.
Frank Lampard sends clear message to Coventry City squad amid title race pressure

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has delivered a strong warning to his players as the Sky Blues continue their push for promotion to the Premier League while battling Championship rivals Middlesbrough in the race for the title.
Both clubs strengthened their credentials as genuine contenders over the weekend after securing convincing victories away from home. With the season entering its final stretch, the competition at the top of the table is intensifying and every result now carries enormous significance.
Lampard’s side currently hold the advantage, but the Coventry boss has made it clear that his squad cannot afford to relax as the campaign approaches what promises to be a dramatic conclusion.
Coventry and Middlesbrough claim impressive weekend victories
The two promotion hopefuls both enjoyed strong performances on the road during the latest round of Championship fixtures.
Middlesbrough delivered one of the most eye-catching displays of the weekend with a dominant 4–0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday. The Teesside club produced a clinical attacking performance, with Morgan Whittaker opening the scoring before Alan Browne added another.
Hayden Hackney then extended the lead, and striker Tommy Conway completed the rout with the fourth goal to cap off a commanding afternoon for Boro.
The emphatic result kept Middlesbrough firmly in the title race and ensured they remained within striking distance of the league leaders as the season edges closer to its decisive phase.
Coventry extend advantage with Bristol City victory
Coventry City had already set the tone for the weekend’s action the day before Middlesbrough’s triumph.
The Sky Blues travelled to face play-off chasing Bristol City at Ashton Gate and came away with a valuable 2–0 victory. Lampard’s side established control of the match early on, scoring both goals during the opening half.
Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto broke the deadlock before American forward Haji Wright doubled the advantage, giving Coventry a comfortable cushion heading into the break.
Those two goals proved enough to secure all three points and allowed Coventry to temporarily stretch their lead over Middlesbrough to eight points before Boro responded the following day.
Coventry forced to battle with ten men
Despite their strong start, the game at Ashton Gate was not without complications for Coventry.
Just two minutes before half-time, defender Joel Latibeaudiere received a straight red card, leaving the visitors to play the entire second half with only ten players on the pitch.
The dismissal could have easily shifted the momentum in Bristol City’s favour, but Coventry showed resilience and defensive organisation to protect their lead.
Lampard’s players managed the remainder of the contest with discipline, limiting the home side’s chances and ultimately preserving their two-goal advantage.
Their ability to withstand pressure while a man down was seen as an important sign of the determination and unity within the squad.
Lampard insists there can be no complacency
Although Coventry’s latest win strengthened their position in the title race, Lampard has made it clear that the job is far from finished.
Speaking after the match, the former England international warned that his team must remain fully focused for the final stretch of the campaign.
With ten matches still left to play, Lampard emphasised that there are plenty of points still available and that the unpredictable nature of the Championship means nothing can be taken for granted.
He stressed that success will depend entirely on the mentality and preparation of his players over the coming weeks.
Lampard was particularly keen to ensure that his squad does not underestimate their upcoming fixtures simply because they will be playing at home.
Tough home fixtures on the horizon
Coventry now face a challenging double-header at the CBS Arena, where they will host Preston North End and Southampton in quick succession.
Although home advantage can often provide a boost, Lampard insisted that neither match should be considered straightforward.
He pointed out that results in the Championship are often determined by attitude and application rather than reputation or venue.
The Coventry manager urged his players to approach the upcoming games with the same intensity and focus they have displayed in recent weeks.
According to Lampard, matches become difficult or manageable depending largely on the mindset teams bring onto the pitch.
Lampard praises squad’s recent form and work ethic
In addition to issuing a warning against complacency, Lampard also praised the effort and professionalism shown by his squad during their recent run of matches.
He highlighted the strong work ethic that has been evident both during games and on the training ground, suggesting that the team’s performances are a direct reflection of their preparation.
Lampard noted that the players have been training exceptionally well and maintaining high standards in practice sessions.
He believes that this level of commitment must continue if Coventry are to maintain their momentum and keep their title ambitions alive.
The manager also emphasised that success will require contributions from the entire squad rather than just the starting eleven.
Importance of squad unity during final stretch
Lampard stressed that every player at the club has a role to play during the crucial final weeks of the season.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining intensity and focus from those who start matches as well as those who begin games on the bench.
Substitutes who are called upon must be ready to make an impact, while even those who do not feature in matches still contribute by maintaining high standards in training and pushing their teammates.
According to Lampard, this collective effort is essential if Coventry are to sustain their current level of performance and capitalise on the opportunity in front of them.
With the title race still very much alive, the manager believes the team must remain fully committed throughout this short but decisive period.
Injury setback for Coventry squad

Despite the positive result against Bristol City, the weekend also brought some unwelcome news for Coventry.
Two key players — defender Bobby Thomas and midfielder Jack Rudoni — were both unavailable for the trip to Ashton Gate due to injury problems.
Lampard later confirmed that both players are dealing with calf issues, which will likely keep them sidelined for several upcoming matches.
Their absence represents a blow for Coventry, particularly at such an important stage of the season when squad depth becomes increasingly vital.
Lampard provides update on injured players
Lampard explained that Thomas and Rudoni are expected to remain out of action until after the upcoming international break.
However, he suggested there remains a slim possibility that one or both players could return slightly earlier if their recovery progresses well.
The Coventry boss indicated that the match against Swansea City — scheduled shortly before the international break — could potentially provide an opportunity for their return, although that scenario remains uncertain.
For now, Lampard and his coaching staff will continue to monitor the players’ rehabilitation while preparing the rest of the squad for the demanding run of fixtures ahead.
Promotion race set for dramatic conclusion
With just ten games left in the Championship season, the battle for the title and promotion places is entering a decisive phase.
Coventry’s recent form has given them a valuable advantage, but Middlesbrough’s emphatic victory over Queens Park Rangers demonstrated that they remain a formidable challenger.
As both teams continue to collect important points, the race for the top spot is shaping up to be one of the most compelling storylines in the division.
Lampard’s warning to his players reflects the reality that even the smallest lapse in concentration could prove costly during the final weeks of the campaign.
For Coventry City, maintaining their current momentum and discipline will be essential if they are to fend off their rivals and secure promotion to the Premier League.
