Haiden Deegan Gets Fired Back by Ricky Carmichael for Remarks on Eli Tomac’s Record

Ricky Carmichael Responds to Haiden Deegan’s Remarks About Eli Tomac’s Record
Nothing is holding the GOAT back. Ricky Carmichael, who is considered by many to be the best motocross rider of all time, has reacted angrily to Haiden Deegan’s recent remarks about Eli Tomac’s expanding record collection.
Deegan, the up-and-coming star of Star Racing Yamaha, recently congratulated Tomac on his amazing career and even implied that Tomac has outperformed Carmichael in some statistical accomplishments. “At this point, Eli has more records set than Ricky,” Deegan said. “Every season, he breaks records.”
Carmichael, however, was quick to correct Deegan’s framing of the conversation and put things in perspective. Look, I have a lot of respect for Eli Tomac. “There’s no denying that the man is a beast,” Carmichael stated during a recent broadcast. However, it’s important to remember that dominance is a different matter from records. Eli has accomplished some amazing feats, but I would much rather have my titles, victories, and legacy than some broken records.
Ten-time AMA Motocross champion and five-time Supercross champion Carmichael reminded fans that his supremacy over a whole generation of riders is what made him a GOAT. “It’s not just about the numbers. It concerns your contributions to the sport, how you altered it, and how you fared in comparison to the greatest during your heyday. Every week I competed against Reed, Windham, Stewart, and McGrath. It’s okay to claim that someone has more records, but let’s talk about dominance instead.
Carmichael has previously reacted to assertions that Tomac is outperforming him. Carmichael’s career as a whole continues to be the standard for motocross greatness, even though Tomac has surpassed some of his individual event records, such as Triple Crown and Daytona Supercross victories.
A fiery young competitor himself, Haiden Deegan has not yet addressed Carmichael’s remarks. But more arguments about who should be crowned the greatest in motocross have been stoked by the exchange.
Carmichael and Tomac have both made a lasting impact on motocross history, regardless of their rivalry. And the debate over records, dominance, and legacy is far from over, as Tomac continues to compete at the highest level.
