Phillipe Clement has said that he wants to make big changes to the playing squad this summer. However, after missing out on the league title, Boyd told Sky Sports before their 5-2 win over Dundee on May 14 that he might have to sell Butland to pay for those changes.

“Bringing in money with Jack Butland might be something Rangers have to do if they’re going to rebuild again, because we all agree that this Rangers team is not good enough to compete with Celtic right now,” he said.

“For example, if Tavernier or Butland needs to go get money, you might have to do the same to get the money you need to rebuild.”

A host named Eilidh Barbour then said that Clement had recently said he didn’t want to sell Butland “for any price.” However, a commentator named James McFadden defended Clement’s public position.

“He won’t tell you to go get him and then charge you a lot of money for him,” he said. “Certainly, in an ideal world, they’d keep Jack Butland for as long as possible because he’s been great.”

Chris Sutton then asked Boyd what “decent money” meant to him. After Boyd listed the good things about Butland, Sutton still wanted a number.

“You don’t have to say how much you want for him because Rangers could later say they want £100 million for him.” “They’re not going to understand,” he said. “Because you need to buy someone, I don’t think you can put a price on their head.”

After that, McFadden added his own value, saying that Rangers should want “more than £10m” to let him go.

Rangers need at least £10 million to let Jack Butland leave.

The club signed Butland for free a year ago and turned down an offer from Nottingham Forest in January. They are now expecting more offers this summer.

He is without a doubt the best custodian in the country, but the club is bigger than any one player, and the manager has a lot of work to do during the transfer window to put together a team that can compete at the highest level.

While the window is open, a lot of players who are out of contract or not very important to the team are likely to leave. This won’t bring in enough money to rebuild, though.

That means they need to make a big sale. Players like James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia, but Butland is the only one who could get a higher price.

That’s a joke, but an eight-figure fee should be seen as more than possible for someone who is about to join the England team again. To even think about a deal, that fee should be the bare minimum. If it comes in, though, it should be taken seriously.

Todd Cantwell could be set for a pay off to leave Rangers to avoid paying him to sit in the B Team for six months, says Tam McManus.

The pundit told PLZ Soccer on 26 August that the wantaway English midfielder’s situation could come to a head the day before the transfer deadline and see him ask for an amount to terminate his contract, which the club will accept to get out from paying the full amount.

There’s something available there, I’ll just go and take it and I’ll get myself back playing again’.

“As that window approaches I think you see players and clubs get a wee bit itchy to go and play football or to get them off the books… The worst one for me was when I was at Dundee under Alex Rae and David Farrell. I was out of the picture and training with the youth team.

Rangers appear to have banked on being able to sell both players, but Hagi has now rejected a move to Rapid Bucharest [Sky Sports, 26 August] and interest in Cantwell from Trabzonspor hasn’t brought a bid [Sky Sports, 12 August].

The Romanian wants to stay and the Englishman very much doesn’t but the view from the club seems to be the same either way.

The wage-rise clause in Hagi’s contract appears to be the issue for him [Daily Record, 13 August] so talks have been tipped with his representatives to find a workaround.

But Rangers fans aren’t thought to be willing to take Cantwell back in the same circumstances though so the only option may be to pack him off with a settlement fee.

That will be tough to swallow when cash is tight though, and if it comes right at the end of the window it would be too late to replace him.

There will likely be multiple changes to the starting lineup for Kyiv’s Champions League qualifier this evening as they travel to Glasgow for the second leg of the match.

These remarks won’t exactly inspire confidence as Rangers supporters tensely wait for the next several weeks before the season starts.

More than compliments the management seems to be downplaying expectations ahead of the new season and attempting to explain a lack of transfer activity. Rangers are headed in the right path.

Perhaps we are reading between the lines, perhaps Clement is just saying the truth, but the Belgian has not rallied the troops for Rangers supporters hoping for a title challenge next season.

We have a sinking sensation for a protracted campaign; if Clement is expecting a bye or any patience from supporters, he can almost certainly forget it.

Although Rangers supporters will recognise development regardless of scale, blaming short term setback with soundbites about long-term success will not be sufficient.

These folks in the background of the club have to get it right this summer – or at least push us in the right direction – and anything less will see their jobs on the line.

It really feels as though Clement arrived early here with some justification.

Although we hope we are mistaken, far from inspire confidence the manager’s most recent soundbites have done exactly the reverse.

Some pundits have compared it to the punishment Dundee got after a string of calls off at Dens Park last season. After two failed attempts, Rangers finally got their away game in the City of Discovery played on Wednesday night, the THIRD time. The Dark Blues have been fined a huge £186,000 and have had £120,000 delayed because of six call-offs this season.

However, Bell thinks that Hearts’ problems in 2017 are more likely to happen. Due to a delay in installing seats in the club’s new main stand, it was decided that three of the first four home games for the Jambos would be played at Murrayfield instead of Firhill. The other home game against Partick Thistle would still be played at Firhill.

Not a single thing was done by the SPFL against the Edinburgh team. Bell told the Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, “The games will happen on the date and time they were planned to.” I think we’re still early enough that there will be an answer. In the next week or two, that solution will be made public.

“The games will happen on the dates they’re supposed to; the only thing that matters is which stadium they’re played at.” I absolutely do not see any connection between this and what happened in Dundee. In the case of Dundee, I thought they were breaking the rules by not taking care of their pitch and making it good enough to hold a game.

Hearts had building problems, and they didn’t get fined, so I don’t think Rangers will either. The problem was found early enough; it wasn’t found a week before the season. I don’t think it’s the same problem as at Dundee because it’s still June and it sounds like they are in advanced talks with the SPFL about where they will be moving to for this short time.

This means that Rangers are “very unlikely” to start the season with only away games because of problems at the stadium.

Injuries don’t affect anyone more than the player who gets hurt, but Rangers have had more of a problem with them lately than most teams.

Dowell was a signing by Michael Beale, and when a new manager takes over, players that were brought in by the previous manager may not be available. Since he was a free agent, it might not take a huge offer to get him.
