In his most recent remarks to Blackburn Rovers supporters, Todd Cantwell was unable to resist directing another jab at the Rangers fanbase.

After submitting a transfer request at Ibrox, the 26-year-old was granted his desire during the summer transfer window, as he concluded a deadline-day transfer to Blackburn.

In an interview with the club’s website, Cantwell praised his new supporters, sending another barb at the Rangers faithful. Despite this, he has had a sluggish start to life in the Championship, with only one assist in five appearances, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph [10 October].

The midfielder was equally, if not more, amenable to the prospect of departing Rangers this summer than the club. Cantwell’s propensity to perpetually disparage his former employers implies that he has no affection for those located north of the boundary.

The Mirror says the 62-year-old is talking about going to Australia to live in the jungle after getting an OBE for services to football and television.

As a joke, co-host Alan Brazil said that McCoist’s wife Vivien might make him join the show if a million pounds was offered.

To which McCoist replied, “You know the drill, lads—I’ll do what you say!” To be honest, I could lose two and a half stones.

Gabby Agbonlahor asked McCoist again if there was any truth to the rumors, and he stayed mum but didn’t rule it out either.

Lennon Miller has played 50 appearances for Motherwell.

Bailey Rice and Lennon Miller are both considered two of Scotland’s most exceptional talents, having passed through the Motherwell academy together.

However, the disparity in essential first-team exposure between Rice and Miller is becoming more pronounced, as Rice continues to occupy the Rangers reserves and Miller continues to garner attention.

Bailey Rice declined an offer from Motherwell to transfer to Auchenhowie two years ago after Rangers persuaded him of a path to first-team football at Ibrox.

The 18-year-old has been restricted to only three appearances for the Rangers first team during that period.

In contrast, Lennon Miller has now played in his 50th game for the Motherwell first-team, as the Steelmen secured a remarkable 2-1 victory over Hibernian at the weekend.

The disparity in development between the two players is stark, and the Rangers may be considering whether the Bailey Rice situation is serving as a negative example for prospective academy recruits.

In December of the same year, Philippe Clement was questioned about Rice. He stated that Bailey is a “really talented player” with a “big future” at Ibrox, but the midfielder is still deficient in “without the ball” at the highest level.

However, Rice is left to ponder his options as Lennon Miller approaches the 50-game milestone.

Alex Lowry, Leon King, Adam Devine, and others have also experienced a solid wall in recent seasons, in addition to the youthful Gers midfielder.

The progressions made by Lennon Miller are concurrent with the growing exposure to first-team football.

It is evident that this will not significantly persuade young Scottish talent to consider Rangers as an attractive option when they are seeking to establish themselves in the national game.

Perhaps one of the Englishman’s quieter performances in a Gers jersey. The former Manchester United goalkeeper had no significant saves to make in the first half of the game, but when he was called upon in the second period, he made some incredible stops.

Jefte — 6

Jefte has been a revelation in Gers colors, but this was one of his quieter performances since moving to Glasgow this summer. There were a few good moments in possession, but the most of the Gers’ offensive effort came down the right wing.

Robin Propper – 5

The Dutchman has been a regular this season, and although he was steady for the most part on Sunday, he did appear off the pace at Ibrox. He compensated for one or two sloppy passes with another clean sheet, so supporters shouldn’t have too many complaints.

John Souttar – 7

The Scotland international may not have had much to do, but when called upon, he performed well. A couple swift defensive interventions kept St Johnstone far clear of Butland’s goal. He may not be the most spectacular player, but the defender is gradually emerging as one of Clement’s most reliable.

James Tavernier – 6

Although some supporters anticipated him to be dropped, he began at right-back and proved to be a danger from set-pieces. Several superb crosses into the penalty box, as well as defensive work, helped the Light Blues keep a much-needed clean sheet.

Nico Raskin – 6

Deployed in a more central spot, he made a few defence-splitting passes but didn’t have a significant influence on the game. When Hagi was added, he shifted back to the left, and although he seemed to see more of the ball, he wishes he had been more engaged.

What happened with Vaclav Cerny at Rangers and Ibrox?

Vaclav Cerny – 9

Following a rough few weeks at Ibrox, the Wolfsburg loanee showed his full potential. He was clearly the Light Blues’ most threatening player and earned both of his goals. Two terrific runs and controlled finishes shown that he can make a difference in a Gers jersey, even if he isn’t always the most exciting.

Cyriel Dessers – 3

Despite having a free header from a Tavernier corner, he did not score the first goal. In the second half, he had the ball caught beneath his feet after being provided with a golden scoring opportunity. It was the kind of game that demonstrated why supporters are so dissatisfied with the Nigerian international. I was captivated before the hour mark.

Ianis Hagi – 4.

Nobody anticipated the Romanian’s homecoming to be quite so spectacular. Excellent pass to help Cerny’s second goal, but a horrible tackle resulted in his being sent out. The midfielder can’t have too many complaints.

£10 million striker fails again on his first start in 615 days.

Ross Stewart, a Scotland striker, was sadly pulled off with an injury only 26 minutes into his debut appearance for Southampton after almost two years off.

The 28-year-old joined Saints for about £10 million in the summer of 2023 after a successful period at Sunderland, but injuries limited him to just four substitute appearances last season.

The former Ross County striker has gradually improved his fitness this season, with four appearances off the bench culminating in a spectacular 45-minute cameo against Bournemouth last weekend.

Saints boss Russell Martin gave Stewart his first start against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday – and his first for any club in 615 days – but the forward man was forced to leave in the 26th minute due to a muscular ailment.

Southampton’s physios hurried onto the ground to check the twice-capped Scotland international, who was unable to continue and was replaced by Cameron Archer. The game was 0-0 at the moment, but Arsenal went on to win 3-1.

Martin later acknowledged he felt bad for the unlucky attacker, whose last start came on January 28, 2023, when he suffered an achilles rupture during Sunderland’s FA Cup game against Fulham. That setback occurred at a time when Stewart was racking up goals for Sunderland, giving him the moniker ‘The Loch Ness Drogba’ and calls to Steve Clarke’s national side.

Saints manager Martin said, “Ross has a muscular issue, which we will scan. I’m devastated for him; he’s fought so hard to get back.

At a midweek news conference, I attributed the Rangers’ ball use to Philippe Clement since, on Sunday, there was an imbalance between risk and retention. Its structure and form were inadequate.

The truth is that Hibs played too much ball in places where we were vulnerable to superior clubs.Rangers’ next game would demonstrate that they are just much too exposed.

“It’s an important balance,” Clement said. “You can play every ball with purpose to make it decisive, but you will lose a lot of balls in the process.” Sometimes you have to relocate an opponent in order to play the ball since the situation isn’t right. We needed to circulate the ball and not every ball was a straight kick to the offensive players or striker, which is why I believe Malmo was our greatest performance.

However, to move them so that you may make pivotal passes later. We are putting a lot of effort on those things, but you could also use them to push an opponent aside so you can regain space. The aim is not only to go to the goal as quickly as you can; if you do that, you will lose the ball too frequently and the game will end.

That was thought-provoking. I made the suggestion that supporters may have to exercise some patience, particularly during home games when Rangers will control the ball and, as Clement mentions, balance is necessary.

Was there any merit to the support’s complaints over the performance vs Hibs? Indeed, without a doubt. But, it’s also crucial to take into account the energy that the group lost on the journey, especially because it came only a few days after a significant victory in Malmo.

You can’t play every game and hope to always be at your best. Some degree of realism is required. Three points, a clean sheet, and forward motion were the main takeaways.

The match against Lyon last night demonstrated how quickly Rangers and Clement must change and adapt. They are much too simple to navigate, and this will not change.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist reacts after Prince William presented him with the award

McCoist described the occasion as “a moment of great pride for my family and me. I am deeply humbled to be receiving my OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle today.” I am extremely grateful for the encouragement and messages you have sent. Did we discuss [Aston Villa]? That is a matter between the Prince and myself.

Philippe Clement flips after Hibs penalty and was upset at Rangers kick-off time

KEITH: Celtic will have work ahead of them at Dortmund even if the Germans are having trouble with form. On the way, a point would be really good. Rangers would accept a similar outcome at home to Lyon. But Hearts versus Minsk appears to be another challenging night.

CRAIG: Stiff for most of them. Celtic and Hearts have work ahead of them on the road; it’s not simpler for Rangers facing Lyon at Ibrox. There would be fantastic any victories.

andy: Although Celtic has been on fire this season, I think they will need their finest performance if they are to conquer the yellow wall in Dortmund. After Malmo last week, Rangers should value their chances of lamping a weak Lyon side.
