In a playful jab at fellow countryman Liam Broady, Andy Murray mocks Broady’s role as a commentator at the Six Kings Slam
As the Six Kings Slam continues in Saudi Arabia, Andy Murray has made fun of Liam Broady for his role in the tournament. In the past, Broady and Murray have joked about how excited he is for the high-profile demonstration competition, which comprises players like Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.
Riyadh Season’s 2024 Six Kings Slam will be the first exhibition competition of its kind. The $6,000,000 in prize money has really gotten people talking, especially in the tennis community. Even the illustrious Grand Slams have never awarded such astronomical sums as this competition.
The quarterfinals began with Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev, and Rune, while Djokovic and Nadal advanced on to the semifinals. In one semifinal matchup, Djokovic will take against Sinner, while Nadal will meet Alcaraz, according to the results of the quarterfinals.
A massive advertising film depicting the Six Kings Slam competitors as mythical warriors was unveiled in the days leading up to the event. While his renowned countrymen Liam Broady was immensely pleased by the video, Andy Murray was not and said that the event will attract few participants because it is just an exhibition.
The fact that the event had recruited Broady as one of its English-speaking analysts/commentators just recently came to light. Murray wasted no time jumping to X (formerly Twitter) to express his confusion at Broady’s enthusiasm for the promotional video.
Murray tweeted, “Ahhhh now it makes sense @Liambroady,” followed by emoticons representing a four-dollar package.

Murray has already expressed his displeasure with an agreement reached between the ATP and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

The ATP and the PIF of Saudi Arabia announced their partnership in February of this year. Under the terms of the deal, the PIF will support the ATP’s men’s tennis ranking system and the World No. 1 title given out at the conclusion of the year.
During a press conference that followed the announcement, reporters wanted to know Andy Murray’s reaction to the news. Murray claimed ignorance about the details of the purchase but hinted at the presence of substantial financial resources. The former world number one, however, believes that the ATP Tour’s lower-ranked players, many of whom are already struggling financially, must see some of the prize money trickle down to them.
Sponsoring the events is a term whose precise meaning eludes me. What it will entail is a mystery to me. A bigger worry of mine is the funding for the sport’s lowest echelons and its grassroots. That, in my opinion, is crucial. With any luck, the influx of cash won’t be limited to the very beginning of the game, as Murray expressed his wish.
Andy Murray, a three-time Major champion, announced his retirement from tennis shortly after his last singles match in the lead-up to Wimbledon 2024 at the Queen’s Club Championships. In his last doubles match, he and Dan Evans advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they were defeated by the American duo of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
