Lindsey Vonn Clears the Air Over Mikaela Shiffrin Reunion After Skiing Legend Apologises for Controversial Comments
Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin are among the best skiers in women’s skiing. So when they team up, you know things are going to get exciting. The pair has previously competed together. When Vonn was about to retire and Shiffrin started skiing, a few sparks flew. And now that Vonn has made her comeback at the age of 40 after a six-year retirement break, the drama begins. The newly added team-combined event has increased competition in the ongoing competition. But what?
The Minnesota native expressed disappointment with Shiffrin’s decision to race in the combined event with downhill world champion Breezy Johnson, rather than pairing up with her. Initially, Vonn responded on X with a shrug emoji and the question, “Why am I not surprised?” After deleting that, she made a U-turn, explaining that while her initial reaction was unprofessional, she was still upset. What’s the real issue for Vonn?
Legendary combo would’ve been fun. Winning combo was Golden.

A lack of communication. The news of Shiffrin’s decision spread via social media, but Vonn found this approach unprofessional.”I just think it’s a little unprofessional,” Vonn said. He further added: “It’s just a simple phone call or text message.”The Olympic skier acknowledged her human nature, but expressed disappointment because she expected Shiffrin to communicate directly with her rather than using social media.
Lindsey Vonn Writes Emotional Note Amid Ongoing Criticism and Harsh Treatment: “Not Always Strong”
Shiffrin, on the other hand, was dealing with PTSD. Nonetheless, she planned to compete in the slalom and team events. Lindsey Vonn later admitted that her “Twitter fingers” may not have been the best way to handle the situation, but she remained disappointed with the outcome.
Finally, they chose the combined pairings based on the season’s best results, which is how Breezy and Mikaela became the fastest duo.”It was 100% the right decision,” Vonn stated. She did, however, post on X later, “Would have been fun to race with Mikaela, but Breezy earned the spot.” I hope to try again in the future if I improve my skiing speed. Finally, Shiffrin and Johnson won gold in this race, proving that the decision was correct after all. What about Lindsey?
Lindsey Vonn’s return was more ‘oops’ than ‘wow’.
Breezy Johnson made an epic comeback at the 2025 World Alpine Ski Championships. She won gold in the combined event, just weeks after returning from a 14-month ban for anti-doping violations. She finished fourth in the downhill, while Mikaela Shiffrin, who has 99 World Cup victories, won the slalom. They crushed it with a combined time of 2:40.89, Shiffrin’s 15th world championship medal and eighth gold in only 18 appearances. So, yeah, they are a big deal.
Meanwhile, Lindsey Vonn, the 40-year-old skiing legend, was not exactly living her dream. She teamed up with AJ Hurt for the team combined event, but after a downhill run that put her in 21st place, she had to hope her partner could work his magic. Hurt did her best, but the team finished 16th overall with a time of 2:43.87.
