“Long road to recovery”- Mikaela Shiffrin provides an update on fiancé Aleksander Kilde’s surgery following the terrible crash
Mikaela Shiffrin recently discussed her fiancé, Aleksander Kilde’s, recuperation update in the latest episode of her docuseries. The couple has been together since 2021 and recently became engaged in April 2024.
Kilde has been out of action since January 2024, when he was wounded in an accident while racing in Wengen, Switzerland. He crashed into the nets while skiing at 120 kilometres per hour and was promptly flown from the slope. He sustained a dislocated shoulder, two torn shoulder ligaments, and a severe leg injury requiring immediate surgery.
Following the accident, he underwent a few procedures and is on his way to recovery. Shiffrin recently shared an update on his injuries in season 3, episode 5 of Moving Right Along, confirming that his last surgery was successful and that he is doing everything he can to rehabilitate. (From 11:19 onwards)
“His previous surgery was a huge success. Um, it’s a long road to recovery. So he’s taking things one step at a time. He’s doing everything he should be doing. I believe we all know how motivated and strong he is, and his mindset is so positive and powerful. So, I believe, for the first time, he is beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate together,” Mikaela Shiffrin explained.
Shiffrin also had a crash in November 2024 and returned to the slopes in January this year.
Mikaela Shiffrin told out on spending quality time with fiancé Aleksander Kilde despite her hectic schedule.
Mikaela Shiffrin returned to the slopes in January 2025, posting a few non-podium finishes before rising to dominance with her historic 100th World Cup win in Sestriere, Italy. She finished her season with 101 World Cup victories, the last of which she won in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Shiffrin and her fiancé reconnected shortly after the season’s finale. She just released a video on Instagram displaying the gushy times with him, and she opened up about it, saying:
“So, after the World Cup finals, I had some recovery time and went to see Aleks, and, oh my gosh, I loved being able to spend some quality time with him.” We watched films, took leisurely walks and simply relaxed on his terrace in the evening sun. Mikaela Shiffrin stated, “It was just so peaceful and such a wonderful way to wind down after this entire season’s craziness.”
She also wrote a nice caption for Kilde, which read:
“Love you, Aleks!!🥰”
