Louisville’s No.1 target Tyran Stokes is due for a significant visit with Big 10 giant
Tyran Stokes is the nation’s top prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, and Louisville basketball’s primary priority, but the USC Trojans are making a push this weekend.
Louisville basketball received some worrisome news this week when they learnt they were no longer the clear favourite to sign Kentucky native and No. 1 point guard Taylen Kinney. The 5-star point guard is one of Kelsey’s main targets, ranking as a top 15 prospect in the 2026 class, but the Cardinals are reportedly competing with Kansas and Kentucky for his services.
To make matters worse, the Cardinals’ obvious No. 1 target and the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, Tyran Stokes, may be sliding out of Kelsey’s hands as well. According to multiple outlets, Kentucky is the small favourite, and Rivals’ Joe Tipton reports that Stokes is expected to make an official visit to USC this weekend, which could be a sign that the Trojans are also going in the right direction.

Louisville faces losing Tyran Stokes to Kentucky following a heartbreaking update.
Tyran Stokes, the nation’s No. 1 prospect, is slated to visit USC over the weekend.
The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward was the first 2026 recruit to visit Louisville in early fall 2024, and it helped the Cardinals establish themselves as the clear favourite early in his recruitment process. However, no commitment was made, and Louisville has not been invited back to Kelsy’s program. Nonetheless, it hopes to visit USC this weekend, as well as Oregon and Gonzaga.
Since Louisville’s visit, he has also visited Kentucky and Kansas, allowing Louisville’s commanding lead in his pledge to fall away. Louisville missed out on several small forwards and power forwards in the 2026 recruiting class, but Stokes is a must-have for Kelsey and his Cardinals.
Stokes, a Louisville native, makes it critical for the institution to obtain his commitment, as it would propel the program to the next level and lure future high school superstars. Kelsey made a huge stride forward when he received a 5-star commitment from Mikel Brown Jr. in January, and supporters are now eager to go the next step and sign the nation’s top recruit.
While USC makes its push, the Cardinals must do everything they can to be at the top and among the favourites. Landing Stokes would build on the momentum gained from Brown’s pledge, propelling this team to the top of the recruiting rankings.
