Man City receives good news as PSG appears ready to move on from star player
PSG is experiencing increasing instability between the posts, and Lucas Chevalier has emerged as a possible long-term solution. The 23-year-old LOSC Lille custodian is garnering a lot of attention as the summer transfer window approaches.
Despite the fact that Gianluigi Donnarumma is under contract until 2026, there are still worries regarding his future after multiple high-profile blunders. He’s had some exceptional performances, particularly in Champions League games against Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal, but his lack of consistency has raised worries.
Nonetheless, it appears that PSG is ready to finish the Donnarumma chapter. L’Équipe claimed on Saturday that the Parisians had made progress in their chase of Chevalier. Talks for a five-year contract started a few days ago, and the custodian has already achieved a wide agreement with PSG.
Only a few issues remain before negotiations between the two teams can begin. Lille’s president, Olivier Létang, is known for driving a hard bargain with star players. The acquisition is estimated to cost at least €40 million, which PSG has previously assessed internally and is willing to meet.

With PSG seeking for a replacement for Donnarumma, L’Équipe writes that even before the end of the European season, the Italian had secretly contemplated quitting, while making contradictory public pronouncements.
According to the report, Manchester United and Manchester City, who were both involved as early as June, are still competing for Donnarumma’s services. PSG wants to sign Chevalier before allowing their European champion to leave.
Manchester City can still ‘match Liverpool’s expenditure’ in the summer window, with a £715 million estimate published
Manchester City are being vastly outspent by Liverpool this summer, but they can still compete if they want to, Manchester City News has exclusively learnt.
The Premier League title contenders have spent heavily during the summer transfer window, creating one of the most intense competitions in recent memory.
Manchester City will shortly top £150 million in expenditure after signing James Trafford from Burnley.
Liverpool’s signing of Hugo Ekitike will bring their total spending to £300 million, surpassing City’s.
Arne Slot’s team is rumored to be interested in signing Alexander Isak for a whopping £150 million, adding to their previous £116 million acquisition of Florian Wirtz.
Arsenal and Chelsea have also invested heavily ahead of a fascinating season, although the incumbent champions will remain favourites to retain their title.
However, City could match Liverpool’s spending if they chose to.
How much can Manchester City spend after signing James Trafford?
Despite spending heavily in January 2025, City still has significant financial flexibility and can compete with Liverpool.
Adam Williams, a football finance expert, has exclusively told Manchester City News: “When we talk about how much Manchester City can and will spend, we have to consider both PSR and actual cold, hard cash.
“PSR is calculated based on how much you earn rather than what you spend. City’s income in the previous fiscal year was £715 million, and despite a relatively weak season in 2024-25, that amount is likely to rise again.
“Yes, their wages are the highest in the league, and amortisation will have grown dramatically as a result of their January and summer spending, but they will still be profitable.
“They have huge PSR space, both in terms of Premier League standards and UEFA’s many tests.
They’re also in a good financial situation, despite the deals they’ve made. They had one of the Premier League’s strongest cash balances at the end of the last financial reporting period.
“Their EBITDA, which is used to determine the underlying health of the business on a daily basis, is also very, very high. They also have a £100 million credit facility, which functions similarly to an overdraft.
“If they wanted to, they could match Liverpool’s spending without forcing the owners to invest more money in the team. They can structure transactions in such manner. Even with the money invested on the stadium redevelopment, this is the case.
“I don’t think they’ll do it because they’ve already restructured the squad significantly in 2025, but the opportunity exists. I expect there will be a couple more substantial sales.
“They haven’t made a direct investment in the club in quite some time. They’ve invested money at the City Football Group level, but the majority of it has gone elsewhere, such as the new stadium in New York.
The players Manchester City still need to sign during the summer transfer window
City could throw money up the wall to attempt to keep up with Liverpool, but they don’t have to.
Guardiola’s squad appears refreshed and revitalized after doing their business fast and efficiently. There isn’t much left for them to improve.
A new center-back may be on the wishlist shortly, given John Stones’ potential departure. However, Josko Gvardiol’s move next season reduces the necessity for one.
The only position that could use an upgrade is right-back, but signing Tino Livramento this summer is improbable.
City will focus on selling players who are not part of Guardiola’s plans, such as Jack Grealish and James McAtee, during the remaining window.
