Man Utd could abandon Mbeumo’s transfer as startling low-cost Tottenham move is talked up.

Manchester United are seriously considering abandoning their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo after a shocking report suggested a low-cost move to Tottenham Hotspur instead – albeit an update from Fabrizio Romano appears to have immediately corrected the record.

Ruben Amorim is keen to add more goals and inventiveness to his offense following a dreary 2024/25 season that ended in an unacceptable 15th place in the Premier League. The Portuguese coach has set about buying players to propel Manchester United back up the table, recognizing that a repeat of the past is not an option.

Despite promptly securing a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha, signing Mbeumo has been a tedious process.

Brentford director Phil Giles has warned United that if their second proposal of £55 million with a £7.5 million add-on is not fulfilled, the player may stay at the Gtech Arena for another season.

While United has yet to make an official third offer, reports on Monday suggested that the club may walk away from a deal, partly because the Bees are using the recent transfers of Joao Pedro to Chelsea (£55 million plus £5 million) and Anthony Elanga (£55 million to Newcastle, albeit not yet completed) as benchmarks and believe they are right to stand firm on Mbeumo’s asking price, believing the Cameroon forward is a superior player.

With reports indicating United might use the funds to chase a new No.9 instead, it’s been extensively claimed that a move to Tottenham Hotspur could suddenly be resurrected, and for a cheaper price than first proposed.

According to club analyst John Wenham, Manchester United is now considering Ollie Watkins.

“They’re unlikely to sign Watkins or Mbeumo, but there’s also an intriguing undercurrent here. When Tottenham sought to sign David Raya, Brentford demanded £40 million.

“As the window progressed, no one was willing to pay the £40 million, so they loaned him to Arsenal, where he eventually signed permanently for far less. I can see Mbeumo becoming available at the conclusion of the window for less.

“Brentford might discover that no one will pay the asking price. They want a fee that exceeds what United paid for Matheus Cunha, who I believe is a superior player.”

Are Manchester United still interested in signing Mbeumo? Fabrizio Romano shares the newest…

Spurs are focusing on finalizing a deal for Mohammed Kudus rather than reviving any approach for Mbeumo, contrary to Wenham’s prediction.

West Ham has rejected two proposals, including one costing £50 million (€58 million / $68 million) with a further £12.5 million (€14.5 million / $17 million) in variables.

Spurs may seal a club record-equaling deal after learning that the Hammers are willing to sell for £65 million, including a higher upfront payment.

As for United, we believe they are still completely committed to persuading the Bees to part with Mbeumo, but they are now aware that they will need to increase their offer to close the deal.

Romano, transfer expert, provided an update on the ongoing drama on his X account.’Manchester United’s exclusive attention remains on the Bryan Mbeumo transfer, with negotiations due to resume this week.

‘There was no agreement with Brentford last week, but MUFC is still working on it, and Bryan is also prioritising the United move. Deal with it.

Kudus rejects Euro heavyweights for Spurs; United target ‘total footballer’

Spurs are optimistic that Kudus will join Tottenham after rejecting a late bid from a top European team.

According to two sources, Kudus may join MLS club LAFC as a replacement for the great Son Heung-min. The timing of the Tottenham Hotspur captain’s likely departure is influenced by a significant financial element.

A key midfield target, available for a bargain deal during the summer months, has expressed interest in joining Manchester United.

United director of football Jason Wilcox plans to sign a Dutch teenage star dubbed a ‘complete footballer’ in order to compete with Real Madrid for his services.
