Manchester United ‘open talks’ over swap deal, but Red Devils ‘are going to end up’ with Newcastle target.

According to sources, Manchester United have began discussions to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, but “are going to end up” with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Red Devils plan to sign a new striker this summer after finishing 15th in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim last season.

Last season, Manchester United scored 44 goals in 38 matches, trailing only four other Premier League teams.

Manchester United have been linked with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, but the Portuguese club’s high value and interest from Arsenal and other top teams make a deal difficult.

Caught Offside reports that they are considering a’smart swap deal’ for Juventus attacker Vlahovic, but may face competition from Newcastle United, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest.

The Italian giants are ‘keen to get his hefty salaries off their books’, according to a source, and ‘the Red Devils have began conversations with Juventus regarding incorporating Jadon Sancho in their move for Vlahovic’.

According to sources, Manchester United has been offered the chance to sign injury-prone Calvert-Lewin, who left Everton for free at the end of June.

Former Everton chairman Keith Wyness believes Manchester United will “end up” with Calvert-Lewin this summer, despite Newcastle’s interest.

Wyness informed Football Insider that Man United may end up with Dominic, indicating their position in the pecking order of objectives.

“Look, I think he’s an excellent player. I think he might do very well at Manchester United, and I believe that is where he will end up unless Newcastle can really push something through immediately.

“I think he’d have been fantastic at Newcastle.” I know they’ve had a long-standing admiration for him. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, when fit, is unquestionably a Premier League striker.

“He’s a talented player who fits well in Newcastle’s formation, especially with Anthony Gordon playing wide and knowing Dominic well.” I believe it would have been the best option.

“I understand that there have been discussions, and there appear to be sticking points regarding wages and other issues. For both Newcastle and Dominic, I’d rather have him there.”

How much could United make from the Elanga sale?

Manchester United inserted a sell-on clause in Anthony Elanga’s £15 million transfer to Nottingham Forest two years ago. Erik ten Hag did not consider the 23-year-old to be a significant player and informed him he may look for a new club as he sought regular playing opportunities.

It proved to be a really good decision for the player. Elanga appeared in all of their Premier League games last season, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists as they finished seventh and qualified for the Conference League.

United has never released the contents of the sell-on clause, but it is believed to be worth 15% of any profits made. It means that if Newcastle signs Elanga for the proposed £55 million amount, United will be entitled to a share of the £40 million differential after deducting the cost of signing him, rather than the total deal. Depending on how much Newcastle pays up front, the sum may range from £5.25 million to £6 million.

In recent years, United has sought to improve its sales strategy by allowing players to depart for reasonable transfer fees, with the true worth represented by various sell-on clauses incorporated into the transactions. It implies that, while some players have left for relatively low initial sums, they might provide United with a significant cash boost in the future if they are sold again.
