“Mickey Mouse” – Jamie Carragher’s Chelsea outburst in full, stating they “are further away” now
Jamie Carragher has always disliked Chelsea, and I don’t think he has masked it over time.
He’s had a few rants about Chelsea in recent years, since the current ownership group took over the club, and he’s had another after watching Bayern Munich defeat them 3-1 in the Champions League last night.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea has added a new centre back to their list of targets and could make a bid for him in January!!
Chelsea failed to defend Bayern’s first goal, allowing the ball to be easily bundled into the net as numerous Blues players switched off.
They were soon 2-0 down after Moises Caicedo brought Harry Kane down in the penalty area, which was a poor decision by the usually dependable centre midfielder.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer scored a goal, bringing the score to 2-1, and sparking hope for a comeback.

As noted by SPTC today, here is Carragher’s full rant:
Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports that there is no right or wrong way to run a football team and achieve success, regardless of the structure.
“My argument is that after three and a half years, we can’t pretend that this has been a success.
“They came into a club where the manager was Thomas Tuchel, who had won the Champions League at that club. At the time, Manchester City and Liverpool were possibly the best two teams in world football, along with Real Madrid, making it very difficult for anyone to win the Premier League, but Chelsea were the third best team. It was Chelsea, not Manchester United or Arsenal.
“They then remove that manager, take a squad that was very close to competing and winning prizes, such as the Champions League, and invest £2 billion.
“They are no closer, they are further away than what that manager was doing three-and-a-half years ago in terms of competing with the top teams in the Premier League, they are further away having spent two billion pounds.”
Micah Richards, a fellow pundit, responded: “But hasn’t there been progress? If you finish 12th in the league his first season, then sixth, then fourth, and finally win the Club World Cup.
“We’re discussing where they are now; yes, he’s spent a lot of money, but there has been development. They defeated the strongest team in Europe, PSG. They did quite well; I’m not suggesting Chelsea will win the Premier League, but you can see progress.”
Carragher reacted: “Let’s not forget where Chelsea have come from, Chelsea are a winning machine.”
Richards went on to say, “Manchester United has been a winning machine for the last six or seven years, and they have spent a lot of money. Last year, Manchester United finished 15th, 16th, and 17th, far from reaching the Champions League. However, if they finish 12th, they can make advancement.
“You mentioned a method; at the present, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool have a stronger squad than Chelsea. When you talk about doing anything, you imply that they are doing something wrong.
“I think Chelsea’s business practices are quite sophisticated.
“I don’t think their squad is as good as the one I’m referring to in the Premier League; I believe they could spend more on quality rather than quantity. But Joao Pedro has been a good signing, and Gittens performed admirably at Dortmund.
“And if you look at what they’re doing, they’re trying to acquire young guys. Man City have waited too long before they can sell anyone. Chelsea are really good at selling on an asset, since they purchase them young, they still have worth, and look at the fees. Madueke: $66.6 million (£48.8 million).
“I just think Chelsea are going about it in a different way, whether we agree with it or not.”
Richards and Carragher closed their talk with a brief back and forth.
Carragher answers the question: “Are Chelsea here to transfer players or to win trophies?”
Richards responds: “But they won two trophies last year.”
Carragher says, “A Mickey Mouse trophy.”
Richards: “What about the Club World Cup?” “They just beat PSG, the European Champions.”
Carragher: “You just claimed they don’t have a better squad than the rest of the Premier League teams. “How is that possible after spending £2 billion on a squad?”
