Mikaela Shiffrin set to secure more titles!
Mikaela Shiffrin is once again poised to chase further success as the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals approach, with the women’s overall Crystal Globe still very much in play. The upcoming events at Kvitfjell and Hafjell promise to deliver an intense and exciting conclusion to the season, with the battle for the शीर्ष prize expected to go right down to the wire.
Shiffrin delivered yet another remarkable performance on Sunday in Åre, Sweden, where she claimed her 109th World Cup victory. In that race, she finished almost a full second ahead of her closest challenger, Emma Aicher. For Aicher, it was a particularly meaningful result, as she recorded her best-ever slalom finish while competing in front of a home crowd of family and supporters.
Åre holds a special place in Shiffrin’s career and personal journey. It was at this Swedish venue that she achieved her very first World Cup victory back in December 2012, marking the beginning of what would become one of the most decorated careers in alpine skiing history. Over the years, Åre has been the setting for several defining moments in her journey.

Among those memories is the first major injury she suffered, which tested her resilience and determination. It was also in Åre that she secured the Super-G World Championship title in 2019, further cementing her status as one of the sport’s elite competitors. Remarkably, during that same championship event, she went on to win the slalom race despite dealing with illness, demonstrating her extraordinary grit and mental strength.
The venue is also where Shiffrin etched her name alongside one of the sport’s greatest icons, Ingemar Stenmark. On March 10, 2023, she equaled Stenmark’s long-standing record of 86 World Cup victories. Just a day later, she surpassed that mark by claiming her 87th win, setting a new benchmark in alpine skiing.
Åre has, in many ways, become synonymous with Shiffrin’s greatness—a place where milestones are reached and history is made. Her performances there have often seemed almost magical, reflecting her exceptional talent and consistency on the slopes.
When it comes to slalom skiing, Shiffrin operates at a level that few can match. Her technique, precision, and control set her apart, making her one of the most dominant athletes the sport has ever seen. Throughout her World Cup career, she has maintained an extraordinarily high standard, consistently competing at the very top.
This season has been no exception. Shiffrin has claimed victory in eight out of the nine World Cup slalom races she has entered, mirroring the dominance she displayed during the 2018/19 season. That year, she amassed an incredible 17 wins across all disciplines, one of the most impressive campaigns in skiing history. The only comparable achievement in slalom came from Janica Kostelic, who managed a similar feat in 2001.
At present, Shiffrin leads the overall standings by 140 points over Emma Aicher. As the finals approach, she plans to compete in the Super-G event at Kvitfjell, followed by the giant slalom and slalom races at Hafjell. Her objective is clear: to secure her sixth overall Crystal Globe, a milestone that would place her alongside Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Proell, who dominated the sport during the 1970s.

To achieve this goal, Shiffrin is focused on accumulating as many points as possible in the remaining events. Her main rival, Emma Aicher, is expected to compete in all four of the final races, making the contest for the overall title even more compelling. Aicher’s versatility across disciplines makes her a formidable opponent, and she remains within striking distance.
Following the latest slalom race, Shiffrin sits at the top of the overall standings with 1,286 points. Aicher occupies second place with 1,146 points, while Switzerland’s Camille Rast is third with 989 points.
The competition remains tight, and every race carries significant importance. In the giant slalom event held on Saturday in Åre, Shiffrin finished in fifth place. The race was won by Austria’s Julia Scheib, who secured the giant slalom globe after an impressive season that included five victories in the discipline.
Despite not finishing on the podium, Shiffrin’s performance in that race proved crucial in the context of the overall standings. Starting with bib number six, she built a substantial lead during the first run and was ahead by more than half a second as she approached the final gates. However, a mistake caused her to lose momentum, forcing her to slide her skis sideways and nearly come to a stop.
Even with that setback, she managed to complete the run and crossed the finish line 2.29 seconds behind the leader. This left her in 12th place after the first run. In the second run, however, she delivered a strong and composed performance, climbing up the leaderboard to finish fifth overall. This result earned her 45 valuable points, which could prove decisive in the race for the Crystal Globe.
Emma Aicher also impressed in that giant slalom event, achieving a season-best fourth-place finish. This was particularly notable given that she had not previously placed higher than 10th in the discipline earlier in the season. Her performance allowed her to slightly reduce the gap to Shiffrin in the overall standings, keeping the competition alive.
Meanwhile, Camille Rast’s failure to finish the race had significant implications. Her DNF meant that she was unable to add to her points tally, allowing Shiffrin to extend her advantage over the Swiss skier, who remains in third place overall.
Shiffrin’s statistics this season further underline her dominance. She has won eight out of nine World Cup slalom races so far, demonstrating remarkable consistency and excellence. In Åre alone, she has claimed her seventh World Cup slalom victory, and her eighth overall victory at the venue when including one giant slalom win.
She has also secured her ninth slalom globe, confirming her position as the leading athlete in the discipline. Across her career, she has now reached 167 World Cup podium finishes, along with her record-extending 109 victories. Of those wins, an astonishing 72 have come in slalom events, highlighting her specialization and mastery of the discipline.
As the season approaches its climax, all eyes will be on Shiffrin and her pursuit of further glory. With her combination of experience, skill, and determination, she remains the favorite to secure yet another overall title. However, with strong competition from athletes like Emma Aicher, the final races promise to deliver high drama and unforgettable moments.

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion, and Shiffrin’s journey continues to captivate fans around the world as she adds new chapters to an already legendary career.
