Mikaela Shiffrin will return to Super G racing for the first time in two years
Team USA’s superstar has not participated in the discipline since December 2023, but she will make her speed comeback in St. Moritz on Sunday (December 14).
Mikaela Shiffrin will race in Super G for the first time in two years at St. Moritz on Sunday (December 14).
The U.S. alpine skiing superstar has not participated in the discipline since December 2023 in Val d’Isère, and has missing all speed events since crashing in the downhill at Cortina in January 2024.
Shiffrin has elected to compete in the first speed weekend of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season for ladies, wearing bib No. 31 in the Super G in Switzerland.
Her teammate, Lindsey Vonn, will wear bib No. 10, following her historic downhill victory on Friday.
Shiffrin now leads the 2025/26 World Cup rankings by 156 points over Albania’s Lara Colturi.
The 30-year-old has won all three of her slalom events and scored points in the giant slalom.
She has five previous World Cup victories in Super G and won the Crystal Globe for the discipline in 2019, the same year she won her only Super G world championship in Are, Sweden.
Shiffrin expressed a desire to compete in Super G again before the February Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.

“I’d like to get a sense of where I stand in the Super G during a World Cup race, and that will be a small window of opportunity for me,” she stated in an online press conference.
“Basically, St. Moritz will allow me to see where I stand and whether I can even qualify.
“If it is not, I will continue with GS and slalom to narrow my emphasis. So that’s all up in the air.
“But I adore Super G, and I don’t want to let it go completely. But that also means I’ll have to get a lot more Super G training in the coming weeks, which is difficult to balance.
