Millwall suffer injury blow as Alex Neil discusses Blackburn Rovers’ mindset.
Millwall F.C. will be missing two important players, Alfie Doughty and Casper De Norre, for their upcoming clash against Blackburn Rovers F.C. due to injury setbacks.

Both players were absent when the Lions secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Derby County F.C. earlier in the week. The duo sustained their injuries during the previous weekend’s match against Hull City A.F.C., leaving manager Alex Neil with fewer options as the team prepares for another crucial Championship encounter.
De Norre suffered a groin injury during the warm-up before the Derby fixture, forcing him to miss the game entirely. Meanwhile, Doughty had been introduced at half-time but was unable to complete the match after experiencing discomfort in his calf during the second half. As a result, neither player was able to contribute to the victory that kept Millwall firmly in the race for promotion.
Speaking about the situation, Neil provided a positive update regarding the seriousness of both injuries. While the players will not be ready in time for the upcoming match against Blackburn, the manager suggested that the problems are not expected to keep them sidelined for an extended period.
According to Neil, the medical staff are optimistic that both players will return sooner rather than later. He explained that the injuries are relatively minor compared to some longer-term issues the team has faced earlier in the campaign.
The Millwall boss indicated that the pair will almost certainly miss the weekend’s match, but he does not anticipate their absence stretching far beyond that. In his view, the situation is manageable and should not become a prolonged setback for the squad.
Neil emphasized that the injuries are not of the type that would normally rule players out for several weeks. Instead, they are more short-term concerns that could keep them out for a match or two at most.
He explained that the club has dealt with far worse injury situations in the past, including cases where players have been unavailable for up to six weeks or longer. In contrast, the current setbacks are minor and should clear up relatively quickly with proper recovery and treatment.
Despite the injury concerns, Millwall’s recent victory over Derby County demonstrated the squad’s ability to cope without a full-strength lineup. The win was another important step in the club’s impressive run of form this season.
The Lions have now surpassed the total number of points they accumulated during the previous campaign, highlighting the significant progress they have made under Neil’s management. Their latest result has also strengthened their position in the race for automatic promotion.
At present, Millwall sit just one point behind second-placed Middlesbrough F.C., keeping them firmly in contention for a top-two finish. With the season approaching its decisive stages, every point is becoming increasingly valuable.
However, Neil is not underestimating the challenge that Blackburn Rovers will present. Although Millwall are enjoying strong momentum, the manager expects their upcoming opponents to approach the game with determination and urgency.
Neil pointed out that Blackburn’s tactical setup could present a new type of challenge for his side. When he last reviewed their matches, the Rovers were operating with a 3-4-3 formation, which requires a different approach from the opposition.
Facing a team with such a structure means Millwall must adapt their strategy accordingly. The manager believes that each opponent brings unique tactical questions that his team must solve on the pitch.
Beyond tactics, Neil also believes that the stage of the season plays a significant role in how teams approach matches. Clubs fighting near the bottom of the table are often forced to take more risks as they attempt to secure crucial points.
Because of this pressure, he does not expect Blackburn to adopt a cautious approach when they visit The Den. Instead, he anticipates that they will play aggressively in search of a win.
Neil compared the upcoming contest to a previous match at home where Portsmouth F.C. came to The Den and managed to claim a victory. That result served as a reminder that any opponent can cause problems if Millwall are not at their best.
For that reason, the manager is treating the Blackburn fixture with complete seriousness. He believes the team must maintain focus and intensity if they want to continue their push toward promotion.
While Millwall’s form has been impressive, the manager acknowledged that injuries can complicate matters during such a demanding period of the season. The absence of key players inevitably affects squad depth and rotation.
Nevertheless, Neil remains confident in the quality of the players available to him. He believes the squad has enough strength and resilience to cope with temporary setbacks and continue performing at a high level.
According to the manager, Millwall are particularly strong when they are able to field their full complement of players. In those circumstances, he feels the team can compete effectively against any opponent regardless of venue.
However, he admitted that the biggest challenge facing the club right now is managing the number of players currently unavailable. Even short-term injuries can create complications when fixtures arrive in quick succession.
The Championship schedule is notoriously demanding, with teams often playing multiple matches within a short period. This makes squad management crucial, as fatigue and injuries can quickly accumulate.
Neil’s comments suggest that maintaining fitness across the squad will be vital during the final stretch of the season. With promotion ambitions at stake, every decision regarding player availability and recovery becomes important.
For Millwall supporters, the news that Doughty and De Norre are not facing lengthy layoffs will come as a relief. Both players have been important contributors throughout the campaign and their return will strengthen the team for the remaining fixtures.
In the meantime, the focus will shift to the upcoming meeting with Blackburn Rovers. The Lions will be hoping to extend their strong run of results and continue closing the gap on the teams above them in the standings.
With the race for automatic promotion tightening, every match carries significant weight. Even a single dropped point could make a difference by the end of the campaign.
As a result, Neil and his players are approaching the Blackburn game with determination, fully aware that the challenge will be anything but straightforward.
Although Millwall are missing a couple of key individuals, the overall mood around the club remains positive following their recent success. The victory over Derby County reinforced the belief that the squad is capable of achieving something special this season.
If they can maintain their momentum and navigate the remaining fixtures successfully, the Lions may yet secure one of the coveted automatic promotion places.
For now, though, the immediate task is clear: overcome Blackburn Rovers despite the injury setbacks and keep their promotion push firmly on track.
