Mohamed Salah stats 2024-25: Goals, assists, and awards of Liverpool’s leading Ballon d’Or challenger
The Ballon d’Or is one of the most sought-after trophies not only in global football, but in all sports.
The honor, given to the best football player in the globe over the preceding season, has elevated superstars to the status of game legends.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has had a standout season, winning his second Premier League title.
Will it be enough to see Salah hoist the sparkling trophy, or will voters go in a different path, leaving the Egypt international to try again in the future campaign? The Sporting News delves into Salah’s nomination as the award ceremony approaches.
Mohamed Salah’s 2024-25 stats: goals, assists, trophies
Salah was easily the finest Premier League player during the 2024/25 season, leading Liverpool to the domestic championship.
Salah was named PFA Player of the Season, a well-deserved recognition for his courageous efforts. The Egyptian tied Alan Shearer and Andy Cole for the most Premier League goals in a single season, with 47.
Outside of league competition, Salah has far less success. Liverpool made it to the EFL Cup final but lost to Newcastle United. However, they were eliminated early in the FA Cup, and Salah did not play.
Liverpool was eliminated from the Champions League in the Round of 16 by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain, leaving them with the most points on the table.
Will Mohamed Salah win the 2025 Ballon d’Or?
Salah’s Premier League heroics are likely to put him near the top of the poll, but he is unlikely to win the prize.
Salah was obviously the best player in the world’s finest domestic league last season, which carries a lot of weight, but he was unable to carry his team in the most important competition – the Champions League.
Salah scored just three goals in European competition last season, all against inferior teams (Bologna, Girona, Lille), and went scoreless in the most vital games. Critically, he was invisible in both legs against PSG, as Liverpool lost on penalties following a 1-1 aggregate draw.
If Salah had blown the doors off the Premier League, it might have been able to ignore the Champions League misses, but Salah dropped dramatically at the conclusion of the campaign, when Liverpool appeared to be sailing away with the trophy. The 33-year-old went through the final eight league games of the season with only two goals and one assist, since the Reds had little to play for at that point.
Finally, with Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele, and Lamine Yamal combining outstanding domestic seasons with star performances on the Champions League stage, Salah is likely to fall behind the top contenders.
