Mojo Magazine has released a previously unheard Robert Plant song
Mojo Magazine has released a previously unheard Robert Plant song called “47 Roses” on the CD included with its October 2025 issue.
The magazine’s 383rd issue features a cover story interview with Plant ahead of his new album Saving Grace, which is set to be released on September 26. In the interview, Plant shares classic stories and candid opinions, according to Mojo’s announcement.
The CD, titled Higher Rock, is a compilation of songs from Plant’s solo career and includes the new track “47 Roses.” This song appears to have been recorded for a planned follow-up to Plant’s 2010 album Band of Joy. The track was co-written by Buddy Miller and Marco Giovino, as noted by Tight But Loose editor Dave Lewis.
Plant explained in the magazine that the song is inspired by the bridge over the Mississippi River connecting Lula, Mississippi — the birthplace of blues legend Son House — and West Helena, Arkansas, where Sonny Boy Williamson used to host the King Biscuit Flower Hour. The song reflects Plant’s personal awareness of the history and stories linked to that area.
The compilation also features two other rarities: “The Blanket of Night,” an Elbow cover previously only available on the 2016 British Red Cross charity album The Long Road, and “Too Much Alike,” which appeared only on Plant’s 2020 compilation album Digging Deep: Subterranea.
Regarding the Band of Joy Volume 2 project, it was initially announced on Plant’s website in 2020. That year, Plant released “Charlie Patton Highway (Turn It Up – Part 1)” on Digging Deep: Subterranea, a track from the upcoming album.
Plant told BBC Radio 6 Music in 2020 that the song originated in the home of Buddy Miller, a close friend, producer, and musician who toured with Plant. After the original Band of Joy tour ended, Plant, Miller, and Patty Griffin began working on a Band of Joy follow-up. The trio recorded around 13 songs during these sessions, which remained unreleased.
However, since 2020, the release of Band of Joy Volume 2 appears to have stalled. When Mojo asked Plant about it in 2021, he showed reluctance about completing the album. In 2022, an email to Plant’s mailing list hinted that he was reviewing material from Band of Joy Vol 2 and the Honeydrippers collection, but no official release has been announced for either project.
