Newcastle are keeping an eye on wantaway Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo ahead of the January transfer window.

Mainoo, an England international, sought to leave Old Trafford before the transfer deadline after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim.

United resisted all advances for their academy graduate, but he was once again on the bench for Sunday’s 3-0 Manchester Derby loss.

Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s manager, admires Mainoo and may test United’s resolve if the 21-year-old continues to struggle.

According to talkSPORT, Mainoo’s teammates are baffled by Amorim’s lack of faith in the striker who scored the winning goal for Manchester United in the 2024 FA Cup final and started for England in the summer’s European Championship final in Berlin.

The midfielder has appeared in three of United’s five games in all competitions this season, but has only been named to the starting lineup once, in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

He has played only 73 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Wolfpack rallies around Pereira.

Wolves are eager to sign manager Vitor Pereira to a new deal, despite their terrible start to the season.

Pereira’s current contract expires next summer, but given that he is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who wields significant power in the Molineux boardroom, discussions are expected to be reasonably simple.

Pereira won over Wolves fans by stepping in to replace Gary O’Neil midway through last season, ultimately saving the club from relegation to the Championship.

Despite Wolves’ lack of points in their first four games, Pereira is highly regarded by the club’s management.

There is also an acknowledgement that this was always going to be a difficult season after selling star combination Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri and losing Nelson Semedo on a free transfer.

Lampard’s main man will stay

Jack Rudoni, Coventry’s sought-after playmaker, is close to signing a lucrative new contract, talkSPORT understands.

Southampton made a large offer to the Sky Blues during the summer transfer window, but they declined.

Rudoni, 24, is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs like as West Ham and Fulham.

However, the former Huddersfield ace is content at the CBS Arena and is willing to devote his career to Frank Lampard’s promotion hopes.

Iconic Barclaysman considers return as manager

Paulo Wanchope, a Premier League cult favourite, is looking for a manager’s position in England.

Wanchope just stepped down as manager of Deportivo Saprissa, Costa Rica’s biggest club.

The former Derby, West Ham, and Manchester City striker has family ties in the UK and believes his coaching skills are suitable for English football.

Wanchope, who briefly managed the Costa Rican national team, famously scored a miraculous goal on his Premier League debut for Derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
