Premier League Clubs Circle as Rangers Goalkeeping Prospect Draws Attention
Rangers are facing growing interest from England in one of their most highly rated young prospects, with goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire emerging as a target for several Premier League clubs.
The teenage shot-stopper has been a standout performer for Rangers’ under-19 side under the guidance of coach Liam Ross, and his development has not gone unnoticed. With just 18 months remaining on his current contract at Ibrox, McGuire’s situation is now being closely monitored by clubs south of the border.
McGuire’s rise through the youth ranks has been steady rather than sudden, but his consistency, leadership, and technical ability have elevated him into the spotlight. Rangers see him as one of the most promising talents within their academy setup, which is why they have previously resisted approaches from interested clubs.
Interest in the goalkeeper is not new. As far back as May, Arsenal and Everton were both credited with admiration for McGuire, according to reports from the Rangers Review. Everton, in particular, were said to have lodged a bid in excess of £1 million at the time, an offer that Rangers swiftly turned down.
The decision to reject that proposal underlined the club’s desire to retain McGuire and continue his development within their system. At that stage, Rangers were confident that his future lay at Ibrox and were unwilling to part with a player they viewed as a long-term asset.
However, circumstances have now evolved. With McGuire entering the final year and a half of his contract, external interest has reignited, placing Rangers under increasing pressure to clarify his future.
The young goalkeeper recently captained the under-19 side during a CAS Elite League draw against Hearts, a performance that further enhanced his reputation. That match is understood to have been attended by scouts from multiple clubs, reinforcing the belief that McGuire is once again firmly on the radar of elite English teams.
Everton remain keen admirers and continue to track his progress, but they are no longer alone. Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, and Bournemouth have all been linked with the player, creating a competitive landscape should Rangers decide to entertain offers.
In addition to those clubs, Liverpool are also thought to be keeping a close watch on McGuire’s situation. Former Rangers coach Colin Stewart, now working at Anfield, is believed to be a strong advocate of the goalkeeper and could play a role in Liverpool’s interest.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Rangers have reportedly been contacted regarding potential valuation figures, as clubs seek to position themselves ahead of any formal negotiations. While no agreement has been reached, the level of attention suggests McGuire’s future will be a key topic of discussion in the coming months.
Talks between Rangers and the player’s representatives are expected to take place soon, as the club look to assess his long-term intentions. For Rangers, the priority is clear: either secure McGuire’s future with a new contract or ensure that they receive a meaningful transfer fee should he depart.
McGuire’s personal situation adds another layer of complexity. As a lifelong Rangers supporter, he harbours ambitions of establishing himself as the club’s long-term number one. That dream, however, depends on the presence of a clear pathway to first-team football.
If McGuire believes his opportunities will be limited, the appeal of joining a Premier League academy—where development pathways and financial incentives can be significant—may become difficult to resist.
From Rangers’ perspective, the stakes are high. Should McGuire run down his contract and leave as a free agent, the club would only be entitled to a nominal development compensation fee, a far cry from the seven-figure sums previously discussed.
The goalkeeper’s situation is emblematic of a broader challenge facing Rangers as they attempt to retain their most promising academy products in the face of sustained interest from England’s top clubs.
McGuire is not the only young talent attracting attention. Fellow academy prospects Kyle Glasgow, Ashton Scally, and Aiden Crilly have also been monitored closely by clubs south of the border.
Glasgow, just 15 years old, has already made his intentions clear. Despite strong interest from England, he has opted to commit his long-term future to Rangers. The club is expected to finalise his new deal in the coming weeks, a move viewed internally as a significant boost.
Scally, meanwhile, has drawn the attention of Chelsea, Fulham, and Crystal Palace, underlining the depth of talent within Rangers’ youth ranks. Crilly has also impressed scouts, adding to the growing list of young players generating external interest.
Rangers are determined to avoid losing multiple prospects without adequate compensation and are working behind the scenes to secure the futures of as many young stars as possible. Balancing player ambition with club strategy remains a delicate task, particularly when Premier League clubs are involved.
For now, McGuire’s future remains unresolved. His performances continue to enhance his reputation, while the ticking contract clock adds urgency to discussions on both sides.
Whether he ultimately commits his future to Rangers or takes the next step elsewhere, his development has already marked him out as one of the most promising young goalkeepers to emerge from the club’s academy in recent years.
The coming weeks are likely to be decisive, not just for McGuire, but for Rangers’ wider efforts to protect and promote their next generation of talent.
