Rio Ferdinand argues ‘dynamic’ and ‘aggressive’ Manchester United target is ‘kind of player’ that he has been ‘screaming about’
Rio Ferdinand has stated that one Manchester United-linked player will “add value to the team” if the club can bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
Ruben Amorim has only had one major summer signing come at Old Trafford since the market began in June, with Matheus Cunha joining Manchester United.
United signed Matheus Cunha, a 26-year-old Brazilian international, after triggering his £62.5 million release clause last month.
Diego Leon, an 18-year-old Paraguayan wonderkid, joined United from Cerro Porteno in the summer after signing an agreement in January.
United manager Ruben Amorim anticipates additional signings before the transfer window closes in September.
Concerns have been raised about the Red Devils’ lack of business since signing United star Cunha from Premier League club Wolves earlier in the window.

Rio Ferdinand offers a message to Manchester United fans concerning the Red Devils’ transfer dealings, amid interest in Brentford player Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United is interested in acquiring Bryan Mbeumo, a 25-year-old French winger, during the summer transfer window.
Brentford is stalling negotiations for Bryan Mbeumo, having already turned down two bids from United.
United are expected to return to the table this month with a third bid for Mbeumo, as Brentford demand more than the £62.5 million paid for Matheus Cunha.
Former TNT Sports analyst Rio Ferdinand told talkSPORT that United still had time to sign Mbeumo from Brentford this summer.
“Listen, Rome wasn’t constructed in one day, was it? People can become frustrated, but there is still a lot of time left in the window,” Ferdinand explained.
“Obviously, you’d like to get your business done early, which would be great, but I don’t think everything pans out like that and you’ve got to be extremely lucky for that to happen.”
What Rio Ferdinand expects of Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford if Manchester United sign the Brentford star this summer
Bryan Mbeumo is under contract with Brentford until 2026, and the Cameroon international has stated a desire to join United this summer.
Brentford’s winger has been linked with a reunion with former Bees manager Thomas Frank, prompting interest from Premier League club Tottenham.
Ferdinand, a United icon, believes Mbeumo is a “mobile” player who can supplement Ruben Amorim’s frontline in the 2025-26 season.
“We’ve got Cunha in, it seems like the club are adamant that they want to get Mbeumo, but they want to get the deal done at the right price that suits the club, that’s what’s part of negotiations and getting that done,” according to him.
“Ideally, you’d like to see things happen in the background and then announce a signing, but that hasn’t been the case for Manchester United.
“I believe that if we do sign him, he will be the type of player that I have been clamouring for for probably over a year: someone who is mobile, energetic, aggressive, and capable of scoring goals, as well as adding value to the club.
“So, I’m hopeful that that gets done, but I would still like to see a centre-forward signed at the football club.”
Mbeumo impressed for Brentford in the 2024-25 season, as the Cameroon winger tallied 20 times and recorded nine assists in 42 games across all competitions.
