Shaquille O’Neal names his GOAT, and it’s someone other than LeBron or Jordan.
Shaquille O’Neal has once again showered praise on Stephen Curry, even declaring the Golden State Warriors star as the greatest of all time.
During an appearance with Overtime, the Hall of Famer was challenged to take a bite of the Shaq-A-Licious Slam candy if he could name any player superior to Curry at his peak. The candy remained untouched, as O’Neal refused to select anyone over the Warriors guard.
Several big names were suggested, including Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, and even O’Neal himself. Still, Shaq stood firm in his stance.
“Steph is the GOAT,” O’Neal said plainly.
Curry’s résumé supports the acclaim. Over the course of his career, he has captured four NBA championships, one Finals MVP award, two regular-season MVP honors, and two scoring titles. His revolutionary shooting range, ball-handling creativity, and ability to stretch defenses have reshaped modern basketball and influenced countless young players.
O’Neal has previously elaborated on why Curry resonates with him so strongly. Speaking on Angel Reese’s podcast, he explained that Curry’s uniqueness sets him apart.
He added that Curry doesn’t possess the imposing physical traits typically associated with basketball superstars. “If you saw Steph on the street, he ain’t got the LeBron muscles, he’s not 6’9”, 6’10”. He looks like a perfectly normal office guy. He’s doing stuff that people never seen before.”
