This week, South Carolina basketball had an unofficial visit from Justin Caldwell, a class of 2026 forward. During the visit, the four-star prospect received a scholarship offer from the Gamecocks. Caldwell shared the offer on social media.

The Gamecocks join a growing list of scholarship offers that now includes over 20 colleges. Caldwell’s visit to the USC campus was his second, following another unofficial visit for a game last season.

Caldwell is a Fayetteville, North Carolina native and a graduate of Berean Baptist Academy. He has risen quickly in the recruiting ranks and performed admirably on the circuit this summer.

Caldwell is a large-framed forward. At 6’9″ and 240 pounds, he brings more variety to the table than most players his stature. Caldwell has the height and strength to succeed near the basket, but he is also skilful enough to shoot from the perimeter and put the ball on the floor to get past less agile post players who aren’t used to being pushed away from the hoop. His shot-making has progressed to the point where he can take difficult shots off the dribble and against tight defences.

Caldwell, on the other end of the floor, blocks shots using his length and instincts. He is athletic enough to compete with most wing players and large enough to bash around in the post.

According to the On3 industry ranking, Caldwell is the country’s No. 158 overall potential. He is also ranked 23rd among power forwards and ninth in a strong North Carolina class. ESPN ranks the Tar Heel State native as a four-star recruit.
