Team USA’s Dating Lives: Inside Shaun White, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Other Winter Olympians’ Love Lives

Published

on

When Team USA’s top athletes competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, their loved ones were among their biggest supporters.

Shaun White, who competed in his last Winter Olympics in February 2022, started dating actress Nina Dobrev in 2020. The couple was together until they called off their engagement in September 2025.

In January 2022, White told Us Weekly about an impromptu journey to meet Dobrev on the set of Redeeming Love in South Africa.

“That was actually how we kind of started our relationship,” White was quoted as saying. “I was like, ‘Alright. Yeah. OK.’ And she thought, “Oh, this guy, he came to play.” He’s serious. So it is something we share. We both enjoy travelling.

Fans of the 2022 Olympians, including Dobrev and her dogs, watched the events on TV owing to coronavirus protocols that prevented them from attending in person.

“We’ll be anxiously watching from home and cheering him on,” the Vampire Diaries alum told us in February 2022. “I am very excited for him. I cannot wait. I taped it and have it at home, and as soon as I get home, I’m going to sit down with my pals and catch up while watching. … [He’s] had an extraordinarily long and great, successful career in the sport.”

Shaun White

The professional snowboarder had previously been associated to Summer Spiro from Westworld, Lindsay Lohan, Bar Refaeli, and Sarah Barthel before falling in love with the actress from Love Hard. Us revealed the news of White and Dobrev’s courtship one month before their Instagram debut in May 2020.

“What’s been really great is she can snowboard really well because I’m not the best teacher,” the California native told Us in October 2021 about the Degrassi alum. “For some reason, I can accomplish it, but I have a difficult time describing how. I remember on our first riding day together, I was like, ‘OK, I’m getting ready for her to fall,’ and I flew down the mountain before turning back. I thought, ‘Oh my word, I hope she’s okay.’ I sat there for a minute and was like, “Uh-oh.” Do I unstrap and stroll up? Perhaps she fell. I’m the nasty person who just went off. She had miraculously past me while I was running. Going much faster than me. “She was already waiting at the chairlifts.”

White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024, but the couple ended their engagement in September 2025.

Mikaela Shiffrin

The Colorado native, who previously dated Mathieu Faivre and Brennan Rubie, has been dating fellow Olympic skier Alexander Kilde since 2021. In February 2022, a Norwegian athlete paid tribute to his fiancée on Instagram, saying, “When you look at this picture, you can make up so many statements, meanings, and thoughts.” “You may think, ‘She has lost it,’ ‘She can’t handle the pressure,’ or ‘What happened?’…” This frustrates me since all I see is an elite athlete doing what they do! It’s part of the game, and it happens. We all put huge pressure on persons in athletics, so let us reciprocate with equal support. It’s all about balance, and we’re just average humans!! “I love you, Kaela.”

Kim has been dating Evan Berle, a skateboarder, since January 2020. Berle celebrated his love’s February 2022 gold medal victory on Instagram: “This girl!” It is difficult for me to think on the emotions I have had over the last 24 hours because I am still in shock! I am quite proud of you and your efforts towards this achievement. You are the most incredible woman in the world; you inspire me every day, and I am honoured to be a part of your life. Congratulations and adore you! ❤️”

Anderson started dating Tyler Nicholson in 2015 and proposed in January 2022. Less than a year later, the couple revealed that they were expecting their first child together.

“The most precious and beautiful I’ve ever felt,” she wrote with a pair of photographs from her maternity session in December 2022. “So incredibly grateful.”

Hailey Langland

Langland and fellow snowboarder Red Gerard began dating before their 2018 Olympic appearances. “It’s incredible, I feel super lucky,” Gerard told Olympic.com in January 2022. “To snowboard with your girlfriend, your best friend, we both push each other in really positive ways. She’s much more relaxed, whereas I’m much more anxious.”
