Topic: Villarreal Approach Chelsea for Axel Disasi – Defender Could Leave for £30m
It looks like Chelsea are set for a busy few weeks of player departures, especially after finishing their Club World Cup campaign in style with a win over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Villarreal Eye Move for Disasi
As per talkSPORT, Spanish side Villarreal have made an approach for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, 27, with the Premier League club reportedly seeking £25–30 million for his services. Disasi, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa, appears likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer despite being under contract until 2029.
Chelsea, who signed Disasi from Monaco two years ago, are believed to be open to selling him. The Frenchman has made 61 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals, and can operate as either a centre-back or right-back. A potential move to Villarreal would mark his first spell in Spanish football, having previously only played in France and England.
A Respected Presence Behind the Scenes
Disasi is said to be highly respected off the pitch. Journalist Matt Law noted on the London Is Blue podcast that the defender is “a very good character in the dressing room” and “well-liked as a centre-back.” His underlying stats are also regarded as solid, which has kept him on the radar of several clubs.
Despite his popularity, Disasi has fallen out of favour at Chelsea, particularly in his preferred position at the heart of the defence. While he’s less comfortable at right-back, he could still prove to be a valuable acquisition for clubs seeking a strong and versatile central defender. With Enzo Maresca at the helm, Chelsea now have centre-backs who may be better suited to the manager’s tactical demands, making Disasi’s exit more likely.
