West Brom goal scorer receives international call-up for crucial World Cup qualifiers.
West Bromwich Albion F.C. attacker Isaac Price has been rewarded with an international call-up after returning to the scoresheet during his club’s recent victory over Hull City A.F.C..
The 22-year-old midfielder has been included in the squad for Northern Ireland national football team as they prepare for a crucial set of matches in the upcoming FIFA World Cup play-offs. His selection follows a timely goal for Albion during Saturday’s convincing league win, which helped remind national team coaches of his attacking qualities.
Price Earns International Recognition After Albion Performance
Price delivered a strong performance for West Bromwich Albion in their latest fixture, scoring during the club’s 3–0 triumph against Hull City. The match took place at The Hawthorns, where the Baggies produced an impressive display to secure all three points.
His goal capped off an important win for the team and served as a personal milestone as well. The strike marked Price’s seventh goal of the season across all competitions. Although he had been scoring regularly earlier in the campaign, the effort against Hull represented only his second goal since October.
Even so, the timing could not have been better. The attacking midfielder’s contribution helped ensure his side finished the match strongly and ultimately sealed the comfortable victory.
Crucial World Cup Play-off Matches Await
Following his selection, Price will now turn his attention to the international stage as Northern Ireland prepare for two hugely significant matches in their quest to reach the upcoming World Cup tournament in North America this summer.
The first of these decisive fixtures will see Northern Ireland travel to face Italy national football team in the Italian city of Bergamo. That encounter is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 26.
Victory in that match would send Northern Ireland into a further play-off clash several days later, on March 31. In the next round, they would face either Wales national football team or Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. The outcome of those contests will determine which nation secures a coveted place at the global tournament.
For Price and his teammates, the opportunity represents a chance to guide their country to one of football’s biggest stages.
Manager Michael O’Neill Leads Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland’s squad for the play-off campaign has been assembled by their experienced manager Michael O’Neill. Interestingly, O’Neill also occupies a managerial role in English club football.
Alongside his duties with the national team, he is currently in charge of Blackburn Rovers F.C., a side competing in the same division as West Bromwich Albion.
Both Blackburn and West Brom are involved in the intense fight to avoid relegation from the EFL Championship this season. Despite the pressures associated with that domestic campaign, O’Neill has remained focused on guiding Northern Ireland through their international challenges as well.
Price Continues to Shine for His Country
Price has already established himself as a key player for Northern Ireland despite his relatively young age. Since making his international debut, the midfielder has built an impressive scoring record.
He has found the back of the net 10 times in just 28 appearances for his country, highlighting his ability to contribute goals from midfield.
Within the current Northern Ireland squad, only veteran forward Josh Magennis has scored more international goals. Magennis has recorded 12 goals over the course of 86 caps, making him one of the most experienced attacking options available to O’Neill.
Given Price’s scoring record and attacking instincts, he is likely to play a crucial role as Northern Ireland attempt to navigate the demanding play-off fixtures.
Goal Against Hull Ends Scoring Drought
Price’s strike in the win over Hull City also represented a personal boost after a relatively quiet spell in front of goal. While he had already accumulated several goals earlier in the campaign, he had not been scoring as frequently in recent months.
Before Saturday’s match, the midfielder had managed only one goal since October. His finish against Hull therefore marked an important return to scoring form at a key moment in the season.
The goal also demonstrated his attacking awareness and composure in the final stages of the match.
Former Everton Prospect Delivers for Albion
Price began his professional career in the youth system of Everton F.C. before eventually moving on to pursue greater first-team opportunities elsewhere.
Since joining West Bromwich Albion, he has steadily developed into an important attacking option within the squad. Under the guidance of manager James Morrison, Price has been given the freedom to influence matches from an advanced midfield role.
In the Hull City game, he added the finishing touch to Albion’s performance by scoring the third goal late in the match. That strike effectively confirmed the victory and ensured the home supporters could celebrate a comfortable win.
Northern Ireland’s Limited World Cup History
For Northern Ireland, reaching the World Cup remains a rare achievement in their football history. The national team has qualified for the tournament on only three occasions.
Their first appearance came in 1958, followed by further qualifications in the 1982 and 1986 editions of the competition.
Those campaigns remain memorable moments for Northern Irish football supporters, but the long wait since 1986 means that the current generation of players has the opportunity to create a new chapter in the nation’s sporting story.
Securing qualification through the upcoming play-offs would therefore represent a significant accomplishment.
Previous Group Stage Campaign
Northern Ireland earned their place in the play-off rounds after finishing third in their qualifying group.
They ended the group stage behind Germany national football team and Slovakia national football team in Group A. While they were unable to secure automatic qualification, their performance was strong enough to keep their hopes alive through the play-off route.
The upcoming matches therefore represent a final opportunity to reach the tournament.
Republic of Ireland Also Preparing for Play-offs
Northern Ireland will not be the only side from the British Isles participating in the play-offs. Republic of Ireland national football team are also set to compete for a place at the World Cup.
Their opening play-off match will take place on March 26, when they travel to face the Czech Republic national football team.
That fixture could feature several players connected with West Bromwich Albion as well.
Midfielder Jayson Molumby, a regular member of the Republic of Ireland squad, is expected to be involved if selected. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Max O’Leary—who has one international appearance to his name—could also be considered for inclusion.
However, the Republic of Ireland will be without Mikey Johnston, who has been ruled out through injury.
Big Opportunity for Price and Northern Ireland
As the international break approaches, Price now has the opportunity to carry his club form onto the international stage.
His recent goal for West Bromwich Albion has helped place him firmly in contention to make a major impact for Northern Ireland during the play-off matches.
With the stakes incredibly high and the possibility of World Cup qualification on the line, Price will be hoping to play a decisive role for his country.
Should Northern Ireland succeed in navigating the play-offs, the young midfielder’s contribution during this crucial period could become a defining moment in both his career and the nation’s football history.
