West Ham explore ex-Chelsea boss as Potter’s replacement

West Ham United are apparently thinking about replacing Graham Potter with Coventry City boss Frank Lampard.

Potter is under fire following a disappointing start to the season at the London Stadium, where West Ham is 16th in the table after three games.

Since taking over from Julen Lopetegui last season, the 50-year-old has won only six of his 23 games in all competitions, and he has witnessed three defeats in four games this season.

West Ham defeated Nottingham Forest in an encouraging morale-boosting victory before the international break, but the board is apparently examining their options.

Football Insider said that Frank Lampard had been contacted. Lampard has rehabilitated his reputation at Coventry City, where he oversaw a spectacular turnaround last season to propel the Sky Blues into the Championship play-offs.

Coventry are unbeaten after four league games this season, and Lampard has averaged 1.72 points per game during his stint with the club.

The 47-year-old is a former West Ham United academy graduate. He tarnished his reputation with a £11 million move to Chelsea in 2001.

However, the West Ham board has identified Lampard as a potential replacement for Potter if performances do not improve. Lampard is said to be eager to re-test himself in the top level following difficult stints at Chelsea and Everton.
