“What the hell was he thinking?” – Lions head coach Dan Campbell admits making a strange error against the Bucs.
That was odd, and Campbell was aware of it.
On Monday Night Football, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was accused of making dubious decisions on two occasions. The first occurred when he contested the process of the catch rather than the location of the ball on Cade Otton’s catch, which was finally judged short.
We learnt from the pool report that all components of the play, independent of the challenge, are being assessed, and that there was no duplicate review; there were communication challenges with the official-to-official method. Later in the game, there was an unusual challenge.
Dan Campbell confesses that his second challenge was improper.
“Yes, that was a horrible challenge. That was a complete catastrophe on my behalf.” Campbell said in a press conference on Monday. “That was me believing he (Baker Mayfield) was down near the fumble site, you know, and that’s just grasping at straws. I should not have done that. So you were like, “What the hell is he doing?” Correct?”
Correct. Because from where we were seated, it didn’t appear that Mayfield was at the fumble spot. Oh well, in the end, it doesn’t matter. The Lions prevailed 24-9, and this unsuccessful challenge falls to the wayside.
