Chelsea Set to Earn £270m from Player Sales as Dortmund Sign Chukwuemeka and Anselmino*
Chelsea are closing in on over £270 million in player sales this summer, with Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino both set to join Borussia Dortmund.
Chukwuemeka, 21, is finalising a permanent transfer to Dortmund after a successful loan spell last season. The deal is worth up to £24 million and includes a major sell-on clause. Despite interest from RB Leipzig, the England U20 international chose to return to the German club.
His move pushes Chelsea’s summer sales to a Premier League-leading £273.4 million—almost matching their £277 million spend on new signings. UEFA has told Chelsea they must end the transfer window with a positive balance in order to register new players for the Champions League. This comes after the club was fined £26.7 million for breaching financial rules and exceeding wage limits.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Argentine defender Anselmino will also join Dortmund, but only on a season-long loan with no purchase option. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca believes a loan is essential for Anselmino’s development due to limited first-team opportunities. He joins Dortmund as cover for their injured defenders.
Chukwuemeka made 32 appearances for Chelsea after his £20 million move from Aston Villa in 2022. Anselmino, who joined from Boca Juniors for £15.6 million in January, has only featured once so far.
With nine days left in the transfer window, Chelsea are still targeting two signings—Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons. At the same time, they expect departures, with Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Tyrique George among those likely to leave. Up to nine players, including Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Axel Disasi, could be sold as part of a wider squad clear-out.
