Rangers’ record-breaking sale is underway as European giants approach Nicolas Raskin.
Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin is attracting serious interest from European clubs, with Fenerbahce emerging as the latest side to make contact regarding a potential summer transfer.
The Turkish giants have reportedly taken the first step by approaching Rangers to establish the financial requirements involved in signing the Belgian international.
According to information from TEAMtalk, sources in Turkey have confirmed that Fenerbahce have contacted the Ibrox club to determine what kind of fee would be required to prise Raskin away from Rangers before the transfer window closes.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Rangers’ most dependable performers since arriving at the club and is now firmly on Fenerbahce’s shortlist as they look to strengthen their midfield.
However, the Istanbul outfit are not the only club keeping tabs on the midfielder.
Several teams across Europe are believed to be monitoring Raskin’s circumstances, with those close to the player expecting the level of interest to increase considerably during the next week.
Premier League and Serie A clubs have previously been linked with the Belgian, meaning Rangers could soon find themselves dealing with multiple approaches for one of their most valuable assets.
Rangers set ambitious asking price
Rangers have reportedly placed a £25 million valuation on Raskin as they prepare for the possibility of his departure.
The midfielder still has two years remaining on his current contract, while his importance to the team means the Scottish club are under no immediate obligation to accept a low offer.
The valuation also reflects the growing reputation Raskin has developed since joining Rangers from Standard Liège.
His energetic approach, ability to disrupt opposition attacks and willingness to move the ball forward have made him an influential figure in the Rangers midfield.
The club are understood to prefer a substantial financial return if they are eventually forced to part ways with him.
However, there is an acknowledgement that finding a buyer prepared to meet the full £25 million asking price could prove difficult.
A fee closer to £20 million is reportedly viewed as a more realistic figure for a potential agreement, with serious negotiations expected to begin if an interested club reaches that level.
That would still provide Rangers with a significant financial boost and potentially reshape their transfer plans before the window closes.
Fenerbahce make their move
Fenerbahce’s decision to make early contact could put them in a strong position as the competition for Raskin develops.
The Turkish club have apparently approached Rangers not necessarily with a completed bid, but to establish exactly what would be required to make a deal possible.
That initial contact could develop into a formal offer if Fenerbahce decide that the financial demands are within their reach.
The Istanbul giants are believed to be looking for additional quality in midfield, and Raskin’s profile appears to fit their requirements.
His experience at international level, combined with his regular performances for Rangers, makes him an attractive option for clubs searching for a dynamic central midfielder.
Fenerbahce will nevertheless have to contend with competition from elsewhere if they decide to push ahead.
With several European clubs monitoring the situation, Rangers could receive more enquiries in the coming days.
European interest continues to grow
Raskin’s situation has reportedly been watched by clubs from multiple leagues, including the Premier League and Serie A.
That interest could become more serious as the transfer deadline approaches and clubs become increasingly desperate to complete their remaining business.
For Rangers, the timing could prove important.
If several clubs begin competing for the Belgian’s signature, they could potentially use that interest to negotiate a higher transfer fee.
On the other hand, if no club is willing to meet their valuation, Rangers could ultimately be forced to decide whether retaining the midfielder is preferable to accepting a lower figure.
The next seven days are therefore expected to be particularly important in determining Raskin’s future.
Fenerbahce may currently be among the clubs showing the most concrete interest, but the situation could change quickly if Premier League or Italian sides make their own approaches.
Raskin’s value has continued to rise
Raskin’s performances have played a major role in attracting attention from clubs outside Scotland.
Since his arrival from Standard Liège, the midfielder has developed into an important member of the Rangers squad.
His ability to cover ground, compete for possession and progress the ball has made him particularly valuable in central midfield.
He has also demonstrated his qualities on the international stage with Belgium.
His performances at the World Cup have reportedly increased his profile and encouraged clubs from across Europe to take a closer look at his situation.
For Rangers, that international exposure could ultimately help drive up his market value.
The club have already rejected approaches from teams unwilling to meet their financial demands, demonstrating that they are not prepared to sell their key midfielder cheaply.
With two years remaining on his contract, Rangers remain in a relatively strong negotiating position.
Potential record-breaking departure
If Raskin eventually leaves for around £20 million, Rangers would still make history with the transfer.
The club’s current record sale is Calvin Bassey, who joined Ajax in 2022 for a fee of approximately £19.6 million.
A £20 million deal for Raskin would therefore narrowly surpass that figure and become the most expensive departure in Rangers’ history.
A £25 million transfer would comfortably establish a new club record and provide Rangers with an even more substantial financial return.
Such a sale could have major consequences for Derek McInnes as he continues rebuilding his squad.
The Rangers manager has already identified several positions that require strengthening, and a record transfer fee could provide additional resources for recruitment.
However, losing Raskin would also leave a significant hole in the midfield that would need to be addressed.
Rangers face major decision
The club therefore face a difficult balancing act.
Selling Raskin for a record fee would represent an outstanding piece of business financially, particularly if Rangers can reinvest the money effectively.
But the midfielder’s importance to the team means replacing him would be a major challenge.
McInnes has already been working to reshape the squad and will need to consider whether the potential financial reward outweighs the sporting consequences of losing one of his most consistent performers.
For now, Fenerbahce’s approach represents an important development rather than confirmation that a transfer is imminent.
The Turkish giants have made their interest known, but they still need to decide whether they are prepared to meet Rangers’ demands.
With Premier League, Serie A and other European clubs also watching, however, the situation could quickly accelerate.
Raskin’s future is unlikely to remain quiet for long.
Whether Rangers hold out for the full £25 million, settle for a fee around £20 million or ultimately keep their midfielder, the next few days could determine one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer at Ibrox.
And if the Belgian does depart, Rangers could be preparing to celebrate a new club-record sale while simultaneously facing the difficult task of replacing one of their most important players.
