Court rejects Fenerbahçe president’s fourth bid to regain Acun Ilıcalı’s Hull City executive box.
The ongoing legal dispute over Box 217 at Fenerbahçe’s Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium has taken another significant turn after an Istanbul court rejected a fresh attempt to take control of the executive box from Hull City owner Acun Ilıcalı.
The Istanbul 10th Consumer Court dismissed Aziz Yıldırım’s fourth petition seeking to have the executive box reassigned to his private company. The latest decision represents another legal setback for the former Fenerbahçe president and leaves Ilıcalı’s existing rights over the stadium facility protected.
The ruling also maintains an injunction that prevents the box from being transferred, confiscated or reassigned to another party. Those protective measures are currently scheduled to remain in force through the end of the 2026–27 season.
The dispute surrounding Box 217 began after Fenerbahçe’s administration attempted to cancel Ilıcalı’s allocation of the executive facility at the beginning of the season. The club subsequently sought to incorporate the box into the presidential suite, triggering a legal battle over who was entitled to control and use the space.
Yıldırım has repeatedly challenged the existing arrangement, arguing that Box 217 should instead fall under the control of his private company. However, the latest application has once again been rejected by the courts.
The decision marks the fourth consecutive unsuccessful legal attempt by Yıldırım to reclaim the executive box. The repeated rejections mean that, for now, Ilıcalı’s legal entitlement remains intact and the existing judicial protections continue to apply.
The court’s latest ruling is particularly important because the injunction does more than simply recognise the current arrangement. It also prevents Fenerbahçe from taking steps that could undermine Ilıcalı’s rights to the box.
Under the protective order, the club is prohibited from reallocating, selling or transferring the usage rights associated with Box 217 to a third party during the specified period. The measures therefore provide continued legal protection while the wider dispute remains unresolved.
The court has also addressed allegations concerning physical damage to the executive box during the dispute. In a significant development, judicial authorities ordered a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the damage.
According to the ruling, the box was forcibly entered and alterations were made despite existing court orders protecting the property. The court determined that these actions potentially breached previous injunctions and therefore warranted further investigation.
That aspect of the ruling adds another layer to an already complicated dispute. The disagreement is no longer limited to questions surrounding the ownership or allocation of the executive box, with the alleged physical interference now becoming part of the legal process.
The latest judgment comes during a particularly difficult period for Fenerbahçe away from the pitch. The club suffered a heavy 6-0 Champions League defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park only two days before the court decision.
The result added further pressure around the club at a time when its off-field affairs are already attracting considerable attention. The continuing dispute involving Box 217 provides another source of controversy surrounding the Turkish giants.
For Ilıcalı, the court’s latest decision represents an important victory in his ongoing battle to retain his rights to the executive facility. The Hull City owner has faced repeated challenges to his allocation, but the judiciary has once again refused to approve the latest attempt to transfer control of the box.
The fact that this is the fourth rejection of Yıldırım’s petition further underlines how difficult it has been for his side to overturn the existing legal position.
Yıldırım’s argument that the box should be controlled by his private company has therefore failed once again before the Istanbul 10th Consumer Court. Unless the legal position changes through another ruling, the current protections will remain in place and prevent the box from being reassigned during the protected period.
The court’s stance also reinforces the importance of the injunction that was previously issued in connection with the dispute. By continuing to protect Box 217 from third-party transfer or confiscation, the judiciary has effectively preserved the existing arrangement while the legal disagreement continues.
The investigation into the alleged damage could prove equally significant. Any findings could provide additional clarity regarding what happened when the box was reportedly entered and altered. The court’s decision to order an investigation demonstrates that the alleged actions were considered serious enough to warrant formal examination.
The situation highlights the complicated relationship between football administration, commercial interests and legal rights at one of Turkey’s most prominent clubs. What initially appeared to be a dispute over an executive box has developed into a wider legal confrontation involving senior figures associated with Fenerbahçe.
For the club, the continuing disagreement creates an unwanted distraction at a time when attention should be focused primarily on football matters. The Champions League defeat against Aston Villa has already created pressure, and the latest courtroom development ensures that the off-field controversy will remain part of the conversation.
With the court maintaining its existing protections, Ilıcalı’s position regarding Box 217 remains legally secure for the time being. Yıldırım’s fourth petition has been rejected, while the injunction preventing any transfer or reassignment remains active.
The legal dispute is therefore far from disappearing, but the latest judgment provides a clear outcome in the immediate term. Box 217 remains protected from third-party reallocation, Ilıcalı retains his legal rights to the facility, and the reported damage to the box will now be examined through a formal investigation.
As Fenerbahçe attempts to navigate its sporting challenges, the continuing courtroom battle demonstrates that significant tensions remain away from the pitch. For now, however, the latest ruling has strengthened Ilıcalı’s position and delivered another setback to Yıldırım’s efforts to reclaim the executive box.
