Five QPR players are undoubtedly eager to leave the club by September 1st.

Queens Park Rangers head into the new Championship season hoping to take another step forward under Julien Stephan, but the closing weeks of the summer transfer window could still bring significant changes to the squad. While the club has already strengthened several positions and allowed a number of players to leave, there are still members of the current group whose futures remain uncertain.

After an inconsistent campaign last season, QPR have continued reshaping the squad in an effort to become genuine contenders for the expanded Championship play-off places. Alongside the arrivals and departures already completed, a handful of players may now feel that their best opportunity lies away from Loftus Road.

Here are five players who could be eager to secure a move before the transfer window closes.

QPR Continue Squad Overhaul Under Julien Stephan

Julien Stephan enters his second season as QPR manager with expectations beginning to rise around Loftus Road. Although the previous campaign produced moments of promise, the club ultimately finished in mid-table after failing to maintain their push towards the play-off positions.

There is optimism that another year under Stephan’s guidance, combined with fresh additions to the squad, can help QPR become far more competitive this season. The club has already been active in the transfer market, reinforcing several positions while also trimming the squad through permanent departures and loan moves.

However, with more business anticipated before September 1, several current players may be considering whether their long-term futures lie elsewhere.

Summer Recruitment Has Increased Competition

QPR have strengthened their goalkeeping department by bringing in Pierce Charles on loan after his transfer from Sheffield Wednesday to Manchester City. They have also secured Calum Ward on a permanent deal following his impressive performances at Motherwell.

Defensively, the club added Dutch full-back Boy Kemper on a free transfer from NAC Breda, while experienced Premier League defender Tariq Lamptey also arrived without a transfer fee following his spell at Fiorentina.

The club has simultaneously reduced the size of the squad. Paul Nardi, Steve Cook and Isaac Hayden were released at the end of their contracts, while goalkeeper Joe Walsh joined Wigan Athletic on loan.

Several permanent transfers have also been completed. Murphy Cooper signed for Plymouth Argyle, Sam Field completed his move to Norwich City after a successful loan spell, Cian Dillon joined Dundalk, and Slovenia international striker Zan Celar moved to Swiss side Basel.

Despite those departures, further exits remain likely as some players continue to search for regular first-team opportunities.

Ronnie Edwards Could Be Tempted by Premier Ambitions

One player whose future could attract considerable attention is central defender Ronnie Edwards.

Although many QPR supporters would prefer to see him remain at the club, reported interest from Burnley may present an attractive opportunity for the young defender. Burnley are expected to challenge strongly for promotion following their Premier League relegation and may offer Edwards another chance to compete near the top of the Championship.

After struggling to establish himself following his move from Peterborough United to Southampton, Edwards has rebuilt both his confidence and reputation at Loftus Road. That recovery may encourage him to continue his progress with QPR, but the prospect of joining another promotion favourite could still prove difficult to ignore if serious interest develops before the deadline.

Kealey Adamson Faces Another Tough Route Into the Team

Australian full-back Kealey Adamson may also find himself considering his options after another summer of increased competition.

Although Jimmy Dunne is expected to return to his preferred central defensive role, Adamson is unlikely to benefit because Tariq Lamptey’s arrival has strengthened the right-back position.

Since joining QPR from A-League side Macarthur during the summer of 2025, Adamson has made only three Championship appearances. With Lamptey now ahead of him in the pecking order, regular first-team football appears even more difficult to achieve.

A loan move or permanent transfer could therefore provide the young defender with the consistent playing time needed to continue his development.

Ziyad Larkeche Needs Regular Football After Injury

Left-back Ziyad Larkeche is another player whose future remains uncertain.

Having joined QPR from Fulham in 2023, Larkeche has struggled to establish himself because of inconsistent form and recurring injury setbacks. He spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership in search of valuable experience.

Unfortunately, a serious ACL injury suffered last summer ruled him out for the entire season, preventing him from building any momentum.

Now focused on returning to full fitness, Larkeche desperately needs competitive minutes to rebuild both his confidence and sharpness. Given the competition within QPR’s defensive unit, another loan spell or permanent move elsewhere may represent the quickest path back to regular football.

Justin Obikwu May Benefit From Another Loan

Striker Justin Obikwu only arrived permanently from Coventry City during the winter transfer window after an encouraging loan spell at Lincoln City earlier in the campaign.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has shown flashes of quality during spells in both League One and League Two, even if he has yet to become a consistently prolific goalscorer.

Unfortunately for Obikwu, he entered QPR carrying a shin injury that prevented him from making an immediate impact after signing. He now faces stiff competition from established forwards Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrell.

Should QPR recruit another striker before the transfer window closes, Obikwu’s chances of meaningful game time would become even more limited. Another loan could therefore benefit both player and club by allowing him to regain fitness while continuing his development through regular football.

Alfie Lloyd Needs Consistent Minutes

Young striker Alfie Lloyd is another player whose future may lie away from Loftus Road this season.

Lloyd spent the second half of last season on loan with Lincoln City, contributing one goal in 18 appearances as the club secured the League One title. Before that spell, he also experienced a difficult loan at Leyton Orient, where regular opportunities proved equally difficult to find.

Despite being regarded as a promising young forward, Lloyd now requires consistent playing time to continue progressing at senior level.

Whether through another loan or a permanent transfer, a move to a League One or League Two club could provide the regular minutes necessary for him to fulfil his potential and accelerate his development.

Final Weeks Could Shape QPR’s Season

With several weeks still remaining before the transfer window closes, QPR are expected to remain active in both the buying and selling markets.

While the club continues strengthening areas identified by Julien Stephan, a number of fringe players may conclude that their ambitions are best served elsewhere. For Edwards, Adamson, Larkeche, Obikwu and Lloyd, securing regular football could become the priority before September 1.

Their futures may ultimately depend on incoming offers, but all five have understandable reasons to consider moving on as QPR continue building a squad capable of challenging near the top of the Championship.
