Choosing the Brotherhood

Despite lucrative NIL offers totaling $5.4 million from programs like Kansas State and Auburn, Knueppel chose to commit to Duke University. This decision was rooted in a desire to be part of a storied program and to develop under the guidance of head coach Jon Scheyer. “Duke gave me a shot when everyone else had question marks. Coach Scheyer believed in me from day one,” Knueppel stated, emphasizing his commitment to the Blue Devils’ legacy .

In his freshman season at Duke, Knueppel quickly became an integral part of the team’s success. Averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, he demonstrated efficiency and versatility, shooting 40.6% from three-point range and 91.4% from the free-throw line .

His performance peaked during the ACC Tournament, where he stepped up in the absence of teammate Cooper Flagg, who was sidelined with an ankle injury. Knueppel led Duke to the tournament title, earning MVP honors by averaging 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game .

A Family Legacy

Basketball runs deep in Knueppel’s family. His father, also named Kon, scored over 2,000 career points at Wisconsin Lutheran College and was inducted into the school’s hall of fame. His mother, Chari, is the all-time leading scorer in UW-Green Bay history with 1,964 points .
