Latest odds on Burnley’s new manager emerge after Edwards reportedly “rejects approach”.
Steven Gerrard has emerged as the leading candidate in the bookmakers’ latest betting odds as Burnley continue their search for a new head coach following the dismissal of Nicky Hayen.
The Clarets are looking for another manager after Hayen was shown the door following Saturday’s heavy 4-1 defeat away to Lincoln City. The result left Burnley sitting 22nd in the Championship standings, with the club managing just one victory from their opening 12 league fixtures.
Gerrard is currently regarded by bookmakers as the frontrunner for the vacancy at Turf Moor. The former England midfielder had previously been connected with the Burnley position during the summer before the club ultimately appointed Hayen.

The 46-year-old has considerable experience in management, having previously taken charge of Rangers and Aston Villa. His most recent coaching position came with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, where he spent time managing in the Saudi Pro League.
Gerrard’s previous connection with Scottish football and his experience of leading Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title have made him one of the most prominent names in the current market.
However, he is not the only manager being considered.
Rob Edwards has fallen down the bookmakers’ list after reports claimed that the former Wolves and Middlesbrough manager rejected an approach from Burnley.
Edwards has experience in the Championship and Premier League, making him a logical option for a club attempting to recover from a poor beginning to the campaign. Nevertheless, the reported decision to turn down Burnley’s approach appears to have reduced his chances of taking the vacancy.
Carlos Corberan has also dropped in the latest odds. The former West Bromwich Albion boss is reportedly waiting for an opportunity to return to the Premier League rather than taking charge of a Championship club at this stage.
Another prominent candidate is Wales manager Craig Bellamy, who currently sits second in the bookmakers’ betting list.
Burnley attempted to bring Bellamy back to Turf Moor during the summer, but their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful. The club reportedly triggered a compensation clause as part of their pursuit of the former Manchester City and Liverpool forward.
Bellamy was already familiar with Burnley after previously working as Vincent Kompany’s assistant at the club. His knowledge of the environment made him an attractive option for the Clarets, and reports at the time suggested that he had been close to making a return before the proposed appointment collapsed at the final stage.
The Wales boss has since made it clear that the decision not to return to Burnley was ultimately his own.
Speaking to BBC Sport last month, Bellamy explained that he had been faced with a choice and decided to remain in his current position with the Welsh national team.
He rejected the suggestion that negotiations had broken down or that either side had simply walked away from the discussions. Instead, Bellamy stressed that he had personally decided that the Burnley opportunity was not right for him.
The 47-year-old also explained that remaining with Wales was the best decision for both himself and his family. He said that although receiving interest from another club was flattering, his priority was staying where he felt he belonged.
Bellamy has previously spoken about his ambition to lead Wales at a home European Championship in 2028, making his continued commitment to the national team understandable.
His decision means Burnley may need to look elsewhere once again as they attempt to identify a successor to Hayen.
Robbie Keane is another name featuring prominently in the latest betting market, with the former Tottenham Hotspur striker currently occupying third place.
Keane has built managerial experience outside the British game since ending his playing career. He has taken charge of clubs in both Israel and Hungary, giving him experience of working in different football environments.
The former Republic of Ireland international has gradually developed his coaching career and is now being considered among the potential options for the vacant Burnley position.
Several other experienced managers are also included among the bookmakers’ candidates.
Gary Rowett and Steve Cooper are both listed, while former Manchester United and Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also features among the names being considered.
Burnley’s previous managers Sean Dyche and Scott Parker have also appeared in the latest odds, adding familiar names to a market that includes a mixture of established Premier League coaches and managers with Championship experience.
The next appointment will be an important one for Burnley given the club’s current league position. With only one win from 12 Championship matches, the Clarets need a manager capable of producing an immediate improvement and helping them climb away from the relegation places.
Gerrard currently leads the bookmakers’ market, but the situation remains fluid. Edwards has reportedly rejected an approach, while Bellamy has already made clear that he does not want to leave Wales.
Corberan is reportedly waiting for a Premier League opportunity, potentially narrowing the field further.
Burnley therefore face another crucial managerial decision just months after appointing Hayen. The club’s hierarchy will now have to decide whether to pursue an experienced name such as Gerrard or explore alternative candidates as they attempt to rescue a season that has started badly.
With the Clarets already searching for stability, their next appointment could have a major influence on whether they can escape their current predicament and rebuild their Championship campaign.
