Tennis icon Serena Williams made a memorable return to competitive action at the Queen’s Club Championships, delighting fans with a straight-sets victory in the opening round. Watching from courtside was fellow sporting legend Lindsey Vonn, who enthusiastically supported Williams during the highly anticipated comeback match.

The 44-year-old Williams teamed up with rising star Victoria Mboko and defeated the pairing of Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez 7-6(2), 6-2. The match, played at the Andy Murray Arena, drew a sold-out crowd eager to witness the return of one of tennis’ greatest players.

Vonn was among the notable spectators in attendance, alongside Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughters, Olympia and Adira. The former alpine skiing champion has long shared a mutual admiration with Williams and has often voiced her support for the tennis star over the years.

During the event, Vonn was handed a microphone and delivered a heartfelt message to her friend:

“Hey, Serena. Congratulations. So proud of you. The GOAT is back.”

The moment highlighted the bond between two athletes widely regarded as legends in their respective sports. Both women have also experienced notable comebacks in recent years. Vonn returned to competitive skiing in November 2024 after a five-year absence, while Williams’ return has been one of the biggest talking points in tennis over the past month.

After the match, Williams spoke warmly about playing alongside Mboko, despite the pair never having competed together before.

“I had so much fun playing with Vicky,” Williams said. “She was really able to hold up the team and play big on the big points, and I could really rely on her. We’ve never played together, but it felt so natural, so it was actually really fun.”

Williams and Mboko will now advance to the quarterfinals, where they are set to face the duo of Laura Siegemund and Leylah Fernandez.

The victory not only marked a successful return for Williams but also reignited excitement across the tennis world, with fans and fellow athletes celebrating the comeback of a true sporting great.
