Millwall F.C. have reportedly rejected a £20 million offer from Ipswich Town F.C. for highly-rated winger Femi Azeez, according to information revealed by Football Insider.

The Championship side are determined not to part ways with one of their most important players unless their valuation is fully met. Azeez, who is 24 years old and under contract at The Den until 2028, has become one of the most exciting attacking talents outside the Premier League after enjoying a superb campaign in the second tier.

The Nigeria international scored 11 league goals and contributed seven assists during the 2025-26 season, attracting attention from several clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Millwall are believed to value the winger at closer to £30 million, with club officials convinced that his age, contract length, and recent development justify such a substantial asking price.

Ipswich Planning for Premier League Survival

After securing immediate promotion back to the Premier League, Ipswich are eager to improve their squad during the summer transfer window.

The Tractor Boys were relegated from the top flight in 2025 after struggling during their first season back among England’s elite clubs. However, the Suffolk side responded impressively by earning promotion at the first attempt and are now preparing for another challenge in the Premier League.

Manager Kieran McKenna is determined to ensure the club are better prepared this time around. Ipswich decision-makers believe adding players with pace, creativity, and attacking quality could give them a stronger chance of avoiding another relegation battle.

Azeez has emerged as one of the club’s leading targets because of his performances in the Championship and his potential to succeed at a higher level.

Millwall Facing Fight to Keep Their Star Player

Millwall narrowly missed out on automatic promotion last season before eventually suffering play-off disappointment against Hull City A.F.C., who went on to secure promotion.

That near miss has increased the pressure on the club to retain their best players ahead of another push for the Premier League. Losing Azeez would undoubtedly represent a major setback given his importance to the team throughout the campaign.

The London side are therefore taking a firm position in negotiations and appear unwilling to lower their valuation despite Ipswich’s strong interest.

With multiple clubs monitoring the winger’s progress, Millwall are aware that they could face continued approaches throughout the transfer window. Their current stance suggests they are prepared to resist offers unless a club is willing to meet their £30 million demand.

McKenna Focused on Building at Portman Road

Football Insider previously reported that McKenna intends to stay with Ipswich despite speculation linking him with potential opportunities elsewhere.

The Northern Irish coach has guided Ipswich to the Premier League for the second time and is said to be fully committed to proving he can establish the club in the top division before considering any future move.

His decision to remain has given Ipswich renewed confidence heading into the summer, with recruitment plans already underway as the club attempt to strengthen key areas of the squad.

Players such as Azeez are viewed internally as individuals capable of improving Ipswich immediately while also offering long-term value.

Impressive Numbers Behind Azeez’s Rise

Azeez’s statistics from the 2025-26 Championship season underline why interest in him has increased so dramatically.

The winger averaged 0.35 goals per 90 minutes while also recording 2.88 shots per game, highlighting both his confidence and attacking intent.

Creatively, he contributed 2.15 chances created per match and averaged 2.50 successful crosses, making him a constant danger in wide positions.

His ability to beat defenders has also been a major strength. Averaging 1.51 successful dribbles per 90 minutes, Azeez consistently troubled opposition full-backs throughout the campaign.

In addition, the Nigerian forward demonstrated impressive physicality and determination, winning an average of 6.02 duels per game.

Those numbers have convinced Ipswich that he possesses the qualities required to make the step up to Premier League football.

International Breakthrough Adds to Growing Reputation

Azeez recently enjoyed another important milestone in his career after making his full debut for the Nigeria national football team during the Unity Cup in London.

The winger made an immediate impact by scoring twice against Zimbabwe, helping the Super Eagles book their place in the final of the competition.

His impressive display on the international stage further enhanced his growing reputation and added to what has already been a remarkable year for the Millwall star.

Only last season, Azeez managed just two Championship goals and was not widely considered among the division’s standout performers.

However, the 2025-26 campaign transformed perceptions surrounding the winger. Improved consistency, confidence, and end product helped him become one of the league’s most effective attacking players.

His performances were eventually recognised with a nomination for the Championship Player of the Season award, reflecting the scale of his improvement.

How Azeez Could Fit Into Ipswich’s Squad

Naturally operating on the right wing, Azeez would likely compete with several current Ipswich attacking players if a move to Portman Road eventually materialises.

The club already possess options such as Sindre Walle Egeli, Kasey McAteer, and Wes Burns.

However, Burns remains out of contract and has not yet signed a new deal, meaning Ipswich could require additional reinforcements in wide areas before the start of the new season.

Azeez’s versatility may also appeal to McKenna. Although primarily a right winger, he has shown the ability to operate in different attacking positions across the front line.

That tactical flexibility could make him a valuable option in various systems and formations as Ipswich prepare for the demands of Premier League football.

Negotiations Still Far Apart

Despite Ipswich’s clear interest, there remains a considerable gap between the two clubs regarding Azeez’s valuation.

Millwall’s demand for around £30 million significantly exceeds Ipswich’s opening offer of £20 million, leaving negotiations at an early stage.

Whether Ipswich are prepared to increase their bid remains uncertain, particularly given the financial demands associated with building a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League.

For now, Millwall appear relaxed about the situation because of Azeez’s long-term contract and growing market value.

Azeez Staying Grounded Amid Transfer Speculation

While speculation over his future continues to intensify, Azeez himself has remained focused and calm.

The Nigerian international has largely avoided discussing transfer rumours publicly and instead continues concentrating on improving his performances and fulfilling his potential.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this year, the winger explained his mentality and long-term ambitions.

“I put in the work and I want to reach my potential, but also surpass my potential,” he said.

“It is exciting to think what could happen, but I don’t want to look too far ahead because if you look too far ahead you can kind of live in a fantasy land.”

“My mind and my mental state is just to keep grounded, keep working hard and just keep improving every day. That’s the main thing.”

Those comments underline the professionalism and determination that have driven Azeez’s rapid rise over the past year.

With interest from Premier League clubs continuing to grow, the winger’s future is likely to remain one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window.
