‘Nico O’Reilly likely to quit Manchester City’ amid Cole Palmer accusation
Manchester City may attempt to cash in on Nico O’Reilly and make a 100% profit in order to comply with FFP and PSR regulations.
On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson criticized City for potentially selling O’Reilly solely for PSR purposes.
O’Reilly, who plays both left-back and attacking midfield, now has competition from Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri, who joined Manchester City prior to the Club World Cup.
Man City might sell O’Reilly for a 100% profit this summer, according to Robinson, who believes this is likely to happen.
Robinson cited Cole Palmer as an example of a player who left Manchester City early, and O’Reilly’s teammate James McAtee may be the next to do so.

Palmer only appeared sporadically for Manchester City before his £42.5million move to Chelsea in 2023

In February, Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Manchester City would accept a cost of more than £40 million for O’Reilly, citing interest from Chelsea, similar to Palmer’s 2023 transfer.
On the current Inside Track, Robinson was asked about the possibility of Man City selling O’Reilly this summer to get greater flexibility within the Premier League’s PSR constraints.
Robinson stated to Football Insider, “I wouldn’t be surprised if [O’Reilly] went”.
“We’ve discussed how FFP and PSR laws stifle the development of youth players entering the first team, and Nico O’Reilly is another example of that.
“There’s a lot of rivalry for places in that Manchester City squad, and the fact that he generates a 100% profit allows them to balance the books.
“Bringing your own young players into the first squad has a negative impact. Would I be surprised to see him leave?

“No – in a similar way to James McAtee and Cole Palmer, those types of players – clubs are not being allowed to fully develop their players.”
Ederson ‘Reaches Agreement’ on Shock Manchester City Exit as New Goalkeeper Identified
Manchester City are preparing for a significant change between the sticks as reports emerge that Ederson has reached an agreement to leave the club this summer. The Brazilian shot-stopper, who has been central to City’s dominance under Pep Guardiola, is now set for a surprising exit, marking the end of an era at the Etihad.
Ederson’s time at City has been nothing short of extraordinary. His distribution, confidence, and command of the penalty area revolutionised the goalkeeper’s role in modern football. Often acting as a deep-lying playmaker, he became one of Guardiola’s most trusted assets. However, after years of success and silverware, both player and club appear ready to part ways.
Sources close to the situation suggest that Ederson has been weighing his future since the end of last season. While still performing at the highest level, the Brazilian is said to be open to a fresh challenge. Talks have reportedly progressed with a club outside England, and terms are believed to be agreed in principle.
Manchester City have been respectful of Ederson’s wishes. After all he has contributed, the club is not expected to stand in his way — provided the financial terms of the move are suitable. The destination is yet to be officially confirmed, but interest from both Saudi Arabia and top European sides has been consistent.
Behind the scenes, City have already identified a replacement. The club’s scouting department, led by sporting director Txiki Begiristain, has drawn up a shortlist, and one name now stands out as the frontrunner. The chosen successor is admired for composure, reflexes, and comfort with the ball — a must under Guardiola’s system.
City’s new target is expected to integrate smoothly into the team’s structure. With pre-season already underway, the club is aiming to finalise a deal quickly to ensure there is no disruption to preparations. The plan is to have the new keeper in place before the first competitive fixture of the new campaign.
Fans have reacted with a mix of shock and admiration. While many are surprised to see such a key figure leaving, there is also gratitude for everything Ederson has achieved. His legacy at the club is secured, and his influence will be felt long after his departure.
Ederson’s exit also reflects a broader shift within the Manchester City squad. Several senior players have already moved on or are being evaluated for potential exits, signalling a refresh of the team after a period of sustained dominance.
Pep Guardiola is known for evolving his squad to maintain high standards. While letting go of a trusted lieutenant like Ederson won’t be easy, the manager is reportedly fully involved in the transition process. He believes the incoming goalkeeper will bring new energy and competitiveness to the role.
Training staff have already begun adapting sessions to prepare for the change. Goalkeeper coaches are expected to focus heavily on helping the new arrival understand City’s tactical demands, particularly when it comes to distribution under pressure.
Ederson’s departure may also have knock-on effects for other keepers at the club. Stefan Ortega, who served as deputy last season, could see an increase in responsibilities or could himself become the subject of transfer interest, depending on the profile of the incoming player.
The timing of the move, so close to the start of the new campaign, adds urgency to City’s transfer dealings. The club remains calm but is aware that goalkeeper chemistry is vital — especially in a team that builds from the back.
Club insiders maintain that there’s no panic. Ederson’s possible departure has been anticipated, and succession plans have been carefully laid. While fans may be uneasy, the City hierarchy is confident this is a managed transition, not a reactive one.
Ederson’s time at City will go down in history. From memorable penalty saves to jaw-dropping passes, he redefined expectations and helped deliver countless trophies. His departure will mark a symbolic shift, but also an opportunity for new beginnings.
As the deal nears completion, tributes are already being prepared. Club media and supporters alike are expected to celebrate his contribution with the respect it deserves. This is more than a transfer — it’s the closing of a defining chapter.
Now, all eyes will be on the new man stepping into the gloves. Whoever takes on the challenge will be aware of the legacy they inherit — but will also be trusted to write a new story under Guardiola’s guidance.
Change is often uncomfortable, but it can also be necessary. In Ederson’s exit and his successor’s arrival, Manchester City are again demonstrating the calculated evolution that has kept them at the summit of English football.
