Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady’s net worths contrasted during Wrexham’s match against Birmingham City.
The latest chapter of football’s famous “Hollywood Derby” is set to unfold this week as Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham prepare to welcome Tom Brady’s Birmingham City.
The Championship meeting is attracting attention well beyond the usual football audience, with two globally recognised American entertainment and sporting figures connected to the clubs. The fixture is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Racecourse Ground, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated matches in the second tier.

For Reynolds and Brady, however, the encounter is about much more than what happens on the pitch. Both have invested significant sums of money into football clubs and have become prominent figures within the sport despite coming from very different backgrounds.
Reynolds’ Wrexham Journey
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover of Wrexham in 2021, beginning an extraordinary period of transformation for the Welsh club.
Their financial backing and ambitious vision helped Wrexham achieve three successive promotions, taking the club from the National League all the way into the Championship.
The Hollywood pair have since become closely associated with Wrexham, with the club’s rise attracting international attention through the documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham” and their growing profile across the football world.
Reynolds’ involvement has also demonstrated how celebrity ownership can generate substantial commercial opportunities when combined with sporting success.
Brady Enters the Football World
Tom Brady followed a similar path several years later when he purchased a minority stake in Birmingham City in 2023.
The former NFL quarterback is widely regarded as one of the greatest American football players in history and owns a record seven Super Bowl victories.
According to estimates from Celebrity Net Worth, Brady’s fortune is around £256 million. His wealth allowed him to invest in Birmingham while beginning a new chapter away from his playing career.
His first season connected to the club did not go according to plan, however, as Birmingham suffered relegation to League One.
Brady’s involvement subsequently became part of the club’s wider story as Birmingham attempted to recover and return to the Championship.
How Brady Built His Fortune
Brady’s enormous wealth has largely come from his legendary NFL career and his commercial opportunities away from the field.
During two decades of playing professional football, he is believed to have earned around £175 million in salary alone.
Interestingly, that total could have been considerably higher. Brady was known for accepting contracts that were considered favourable to his teams, particularly during his time with the New England Patriots. Those decisions allowed the franchise greater flexibility to build competitive squads around him.
His success on the field eventually opened another major financial opportunity.
In 2022, Brady agreed to a reported 10-year contract worth approximately £285 million to work as an NFL analyst for FOX Sports.
Although the deal was announced during the latter stages of his playing career, it highlighted just how valuable his reputation and football knowledge had become.
Reynolds’ Multiple Business Ventures
Like Brady, Reynolds has developed significant wealth outside his main career.
The Canadian actor became a global superstar through his portrayal of Deadpool and has also appeared in major productions including Red Notice. His growing entertainment profile has been complemented by a series of successful business investments.
Much of his entrepreneurial activity has been conducted through his production company, Maximum Effort.
His fortune is estimated at roughly £256 million, placing him on a similar financial level to Brady.
One of his most profitable ventures involved Aviation Gin.
Reynolds acquired an interest in the gin company in 2018 and later reportedly made around £96 million from its sale.
Mint Mobile Added to Reynolds’ Wealth
Reynolds’ business success did not end with Aviation Gin.
He also became involved with telecommunications company Mint Mobile, where his investment and promotional work helped raise the brand’s profile.
When T-Mobile acquired the company in 2024, Reynolds reportedly benefited from the sale of a 25 per cent stake, with claims suggesting the transaction earned him approximately £250 million.
These investments demonstrate that Reynolds’ fortune is not simply the product of his acting career.
His ability to identify commercial opportunities has helped him establish himself as a significant entrepreneur, alongside his work in Hollywood and football.
Brady Currently Has the Bragging Rights
Despite the similarities between Reynolds and Brady’s wealth, only one of them can claim bragging rights ahead of Friday’s meeting.
At present, that honour belongs to Brady.
Birmingham defeated Wrexham 2-0 in the most recent meeting between the clubs in April 2026.
Brady wasted little time celebrating the victory online, using his Instagram Stories to enjoy Birmingham’s success while playfully teasing Reynolds and McElhenney.
His message summed up the rivalry perfectly as he wrote: “Big W. It’s always more fun to beat your friends.”
Both Clubs Seek Their First Win
The two sides have made remarkably similar starts to the new Championship campaign.
Wrexham opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Cardiff City before producing another 1-1 result against Watford.
Birmingham have also collected two points from their opening two fixtures.
The Blues began with a goalless draw against Sheffield United before drawing 2-2 with Bristol City.
Demarai Gray rescued Birmingham in that match by converting a penalty in the 95th minute.
With both teams still searching for their first victory of the campaign, Friday’s Hollywood Derby promises to carry plenty of sporting significance.
And with Reynolds and Brady both watching closely, there will be an extra layer of celebrity rivalry surrounding the Championship showdown.
