Scottish club welcomes Green Brigade back with “Round two” message

Cowdenbeath have extended a tongue-in-cheek invitation to the Green Brigade ahead of Celtic B’s upcoming visit to Central Park, challenging the Celtic supporters’ group to return to Fife for another noisy encounter.

Celtic B are scheduled to face Cowdenbeath in the KDM Evolution Trophy on Tuesday, October 13, with the match due to begin at 7.45pm. While the main focus will naturally be on the action between the two teams, Cowdenbeath have already created an additional storyline by inviting the Green Brigade to make another appearance.

The Fife club have jokingly called on the Celtic ultras group to return for what they have labelled “round two” of an unofficial contest to determine which supporters can create the loudest atmosphere.

The challenge is a reference to the memorable meeting between the teams at Central Park last November, when members of the Green Brigade travelled to the stadium in large numbers to support Celtic B.

At that time, the group were serving a six-match ban from attending Celtic’s first-team fixtures. As a result, the Celtic B match offered some of the supporters an opportunity to watch their team in person while their restriction remained in place.

Their presence made a major impact on the atmosphere inside the stadium. The travelling supporters generated considerable noise throughout their visit and also used pyrotechnics, although the scenes contributed to a delay before the match could get underway.

The Green Brigade later described the trip to Cowdenbeath as a “welcome relief” during a period when tensions between the supporters’ group and the Celtic hierarchy remained high.

While the supporters enjoyed themselves in the stands, Cowdenbeath ensured they had something to celebrate on the pitch as well. The Fife side claimed a 2-1 victory over Celtic B in their Lowland League meeting, adding an important result to what was already an eventful occasion.

Almost a year later, the two teams are preparing to meet again, this time in the KDM Evolution Trophy, and Cowdenbeath are clearly hoping that the return fixture can produce another memorable night.

The club took to social media to issue its playful challenge to the Green Brigade, presenting the potential meeting between the two sets of supporters as an unofficial battle for supremacy in the stands.

“Blue Brazilians versus Green Brigade… fancy it?” Cowdenbeath wrote.

The club then reminded the Celtic supporters of what happened during the previous visit.

“The last time Celtic B came to Central Park, we won 2-1 and the Green Brigade helped make it a cracking atmosphere,” Cowdenbeath said.

However, the club pointed out that there was one major difference this time around.

“Only problem?

“We didn’t have the Blue Brazilians back then. We do now.”

Cowdenbeath then directly challenged the Green Brigade to return to Central Park and take part in another atmosphere battle.

“So, Green Brigade, fancy coming back for round two?” the club added.

The Fife side made it clear that the proposed contest would not involve any formal judging or competitive prize. Instead, the objective would simply be to see which group could create the biggest noise during the evening.

“No VAR. No judges. No official winner,” Cowdenbeath wrote.

“Just a completely unnecessary battle to see who can make the most noise.”

The club concluded its message with a final line that left the invitation open to the Celtic supporters.

“Challenge issued. Now we wait.”

Whether the Green Brigade accepts the invitation remains to be seen, but the message has already added an entertaining subplot to the upcoming fixture.

For Celtic B, the match represents another opportunity for Jonny Hayes’ young squad to gain experience against senior opposition. The KDM Evolution Trophy provides the development side with competitive fixtures that can help their younger players continue progressing.

Celtic B have already produced several entertaining encounters in the competition this season. Their most recent outing came against East Kilbride in September, when the sides played out an eventful 3-3 draw.

Hayes’ team were left disappointed after failing to take all three points from that match, having competed strongly throughout the contest. The result nevertheless provided another useful test for a young Celtic side attempting to develop its players through regular competitive football.

They will now turn their attention towards Cowdenbeath and look to return to winning ways when the sides meet at Central Park.

The previous encounter between the clubs demonstrated that matches involving Celtic B and Cowdenbeath can provide plenty of drama both on and off the pitch. Cowdenbeath will be hoping for another victory, while Celtic B will be determined to produce a better result this time.

Away from the football itself, however, attention could also be directed towards the stands if the Green Brigade responds to Cowdenbeath’s invitation.

The Fife club has clearly embraced the idea of turning the fixture into another memorable occasion, with the “Blue Brazilians” now presented as the latest challengers to the Green Brigade.

For supporters, that could add another layer of excitement to an already interesting cup fixture.

The match is set for Tuesday, October 13, with the action scheduled to begin at 7.45pm. Celtic B will be aiming to get their campaign back on track, while Cowdenbeath will hope to repeat their previous 2-1 success.

And if the Green Brigade does answer the call, Central Park could once again become the setting for a memorable night.
