Sheffield Wednesday remains active in the transfer market, showing interest in a former Barnsley attacker.
Sheffield Wednesday’s summer recruitment drive is showing no signs of slowing down, with the club now among those monitoring Wrexham attacking midfielder Davis Keillor-Dunn ahead of the new League One campaign.
The Owls have already been active in the transfer market as they continue reshaping their squad, and further additions are expected over the coming weeks. One of the latest names to emerge on their shortlist is Keillor-Dunn, who has established himself as one of the most productive attacking players at League One level over recent seasons.
According to reports, Wednesday are keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old as they assess several options for strengthening their attacking department before the new season gets underway.
Keillor-Dunn only joined Wrexham during the January transfer window after making a significant impact with Barnsley, where he became one of the club’s standout performers.
His spell at Oakwell saw him develop into one of the division’s most dangerous attacking midfielders, consistently delivering goals and creativity. Across 88 League One appearances for Barnsley, he scored an impressive 36 goals while also registering six assists, underlining his ability to influence matches from advanced midfield positions.
Those performances have ensured there remains considerable interest in his services despite his relatively recent move to North Wales.
Sheffield Wednesday are not alone in their admiration.
The Star understands that several clubs are monitoring the situation, with fellow League One promotion hopefuls Leicester City also believed to be considering a move for the attacking midfielder.
That level of competition means Wednesday could face a significant challenge if they decide to pursue the player seriously.
Even so, Keillor-Dunn remains firmly on the club’s radar as recruitment work continues behind the scenes.
The Owls are currently assessing a broad range of targets as they prepare for what is expected to be one of the most significant squad rebuilds in recent years.
After several departures and further changes anticipated before the transfer window closes, Sheffield Wednesday are eager to assemble a squad capable of challenging near the top of League One.
Adding a player with Keillor-Dunn’s experience and proven attacking output would certainly represent an ambitious piece of business.
At this stage, however, it remains unclear exactly what type of deal Sheffield Wednesday would attempt to negotiate.
Whether the club would seek a permanent transfer or explore the possibility of a loan arrangement has yet to become clear.
One complication is the player’s contract situation.
Keillor-Dunn remains tied to Wrexham until the summer of 2029 after signing a long-term agreement following his move earlier this year.
That contract places Wrexham in a strong negotiating position should they decide they are prepared to consider offers.
Nevertheless, reports suggest there is a growing belief that the attacking midfielder could leave during the current transfer window as he looks for greater first-team opportunities.
Since arriving at the Racecourse Ground in January, Keillor-Dunn has struggled to establish himself in the starting lineup.
He featured in only six League One matches during the second half of last season and was unable to earn a single league start despite Wrexham’s ambitious recruitment strategy.
With increased competition for places within Phil Parkinson’s squad, regular playing opportunities have become difficult to secure.
That lack of minutes has naturally led to speculation surrounding his future.
Should Wrexham become willing to sanction his departure, there is expected to be no shortage of interested clubs.
His track record in League One makes him an attractive option for sides hoping to strengthen their attacking options without taking a gamble on an unproven player.
Sheffield Wednesday’s recruitment process has noticeably gathered momentum since the appointment of sporting director Simon Wilson earlier this month.
Wilson’s arrival has brought greater structure to the club’s transfer planning, with several targets already identified across multiple positions.
The Owls have already confirmed the arrivals of Ricardo Santos and Jordi Liongola, while numerous additional signings continue to be explored as the club prepares for the demands of the upcoming campaign.
Keillor-Dunn is understood to be one of several attacking players under consideration as Wednesday seek to improve both creativity and goals within the squad.
The midfielder’s football journey has been an interesting one.
Born in the North East, he began his senior career north of the border with Ross County before spending time on loan at Falkirk.
He later moved to Wrexham for a brief spell before returning to England, where he represented Oldham Athletic and Burton Albion.
His career truly began to flourish during his time with Mansfield Town, where his performances earned widespread recognition and eventually secured a move to Barnsley.
It was at Oakwell where Keillor-Dunn arguably produced the finest football of his career.
His goals, creativity and consistency established him as one of League One’s standout attacking players and eventually convinced Wrexham to invest in his services midway through last season.
However, his move to the Welsh club has yet to produce the opportunities many expected.
Limited appearances and fierce competition for places have left his future uncertain despite the length of his contract.
That uncertainty has alerted several clubs looking to strengthen before the new campaign, with Sheffield Wednesday among those monitoring developments closely.
The Owls clearly view him as a player capable of making an immediate impact in League One thanks to his extensive experience and proven ability to produce goals from midfield.
Even so, completing a deal may prove difficult.
Interest from Leicester City and other clubs means Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to have a straightforward path should negotiations begin.
For now, Keillor-Dunn remains one of a number of names under consideration as Wednesday continue their extensive recruitment drive.
With plenty of work still to be done before the transfer window closes, the club’s pursuit of new additions is expected to continue at pace, and the situation surrounding the former Barnsley star will be one to watch over the coming weeks as the race for his signature develops.
