The latest Nate Ament report is a major concern for Louisville’s efforts to recruit 5-star prospects

Nate Ament, the No. 4 overall recruit in the class of 2025, just deferred his commitment announcement to an undetermined date. According to Travis Branham of 247sports, basketball fans may soon learn out his school.

Ament is an ideal addition to the Cardinals’ roster, complementing Kelsey’s three new players via the transfer portal. At 6-foot-9, the power forward is listed as the No. 2 power forward in the 2025 class and can dominate and score at an exceptional level.

Ament was scheduled to make his statement on April 1 during the McDonald’s All-American game at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, N.Y., but the uncertainty surrounding the consensus 5-star prospect pushed him to postpone his choice. Cardinals supporters were disappointed to see that Duke and Arkansas had surpassed them as the new favourites. According to Branham’s most recent analysis, fears over Ament’s recruitment procedure have reached an all-time high.

On the 247Sports College Basketball Show, Branaham indicated that Duke now has a tiny edge. “However, the team I’m looking at behind them is Tennessee. Tennessee appears to have gained pace in this recruiting, while Louisville has lost ground, with Kentucky currently ranked third as the dark horse.

The Cardinals appear to have lost all momentum in this critical recruiting cycle. Branaham is still listing Duke as the favourite, but Tennessee is now the second-favorite, with the Cardinals’ opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats, as the “darkhorse” and third favourite to land Ament. Branaham does not cover Arkansas, but ESPN’s Paul Biancardi stated on April 1 that Arkansas outperformed the Cardinals and was one of Ament’s top picks.

So, with Branaham stating that Tennessee and Kentucky have already surpassed Louisville, Kelsey and his Cardinals might be out of the running. The Cardinals’ offseason seems to be an ideal recruitment technique for landing Ament, since the Cardinals’ roster is tailor-made for him. Louisville recruited three excellent sharpshooters, including Adrian Wooley, a 5-star prospect.

Branaham’s update notified everyone that he expects Ament to announce his new commitment date soon, given that the NCAA basketball season has officially ended with the Florida Gators winning the 2025 National Championship.

“It seems like there’s been a little bit of movement now that the seasons are all officially over,” Branham said on Ament’s recruiting report. “I would expect that we probably get a re-set commitment date here pretty soon.”
