A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged after an officer was assaulted following Celtic v Hearts.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted following Celtic’s Scottish Premiership meeting with Hearts.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment after the reported incident but was later released.
The alleged assault took place after Celtic hosted Hearts at Celtic Park on Sunday, October 18, with the match ending in a comprehensive 7-1 victory for the home side.
Police Scotland confirmed that a man had been arrested and charged following a disturbance on Springfield Road in the Parkhead area of Glasgow after the final whistle.
At the same time, detectives are investigating a separate alleged assault involving a 22-year-old man near Celtic Park earlier on the same day.
According to police, the second incident happened on Celtic Way at London Road between approximately 2.45pm and 2.55pm, shortly before the match got underway.
The developments follow disturbing scenes reported outside Celtic Park, where supporters from Celtic and Hearts were involved in an apparent confrontation before the Premiership fixture.
Footage circulating online appeared to show rival groups clashing in the area as Hearts supporters made their way towards the stadium.

Punches were reportedly exchanged during the confrontation, while metal barriers were also seen being lifted or used during the disorder.
The incident created chaotic scenes around The Celtic Way, with a number of supporters becoming involved as tensions escalated.
Police Scotland subsequently became involved and moved to disperse those involved.
The force has now confirmed that the alleged assault on an officer took place following the match on Springfield Road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said a 23-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with an assault on a police officer following a disturbance in Springfield Road after the Celtic and Hearts match on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The spokesperson confirmed that the officer had been taken to hospital following the incident and was later released after receiving treatment.
The arrested man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Police have also confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing into the separate report involving the 22-year-old man.
According to the statement, detectives are investigating an alleged assault in Celtic Way at London Road, which reportedly occurred between 2.45pm and 2.55pm on Sunday.
At this stage, police have not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested in connection with that separate incident.
Videos shared across social media have provided a glimpse of the disorder that reportedly occurred outside the stadium before kick-off.
One clip appeared to show fighting taking place close to the Billy McNeill statue, with bottles and other objects reportedly being thrown between groups of supporters.

The footage showed a large number of people gathered in the area as the confrontation unfolded.
In another section of the footage, at least one Hearts supporter appeared to be held on the ground while other individuals moved towards the incident.
Other supporters were also caught up in the disturbance, which reportedly lasted for around a minute before police officers arrived and intervened.
The scenes have prompted further attention on crowd behaviour around Celtic Park, particularly given the presence of families and other supporters in the surrounding areas on matchdays.
Despite the disorder outside the stadium, the action on the pitch was heavily one-sided.
Celtic produced a dominant display against Hearts, eventually securing a huge 7-1 victory in the Scottish Premiership.
The home side made an exceptionally fast start and had already established a two-goal advantage within the opening 10 minutes.
Kieran Tierney opened the scoring before Benjamin Nygren added a second as Celtic immediately put Hearts under significant pressure.
The hosts continued their attacking onslaught and quickly extended their advantage.
Callum Osmand scored twice in quick succession to put Celtic 4-0 ahead before the first half had reached its conclusion.
Hearts eventually managed to respond through Laurent Mendy, who pulled a goal back for the visitors.
However, any hope of a comeback was effectively ended when Jamie McCart turned the ball into his own net, allowing Celtic to restore their four-goal advantage.
Celtic therefore went into half-time with a commanding 5-1 lead.
The hosts eased off somewhat after the interval but still found the net twice more before the final whistle.
Camilo Duran added Celtic’s sixth goal early in the second half, further extending an already overwhelming advantage.
Nygren then completed the scoring late in the match by finding the net for a second time.
The final score left Celtic celebrating an emphatic 7-1 triumph, while Hearts endured a miserable afternoon both on and off the pitch.
For Celtic, the result maintained their strong position at the top end of the Scottish Premiership and provided another impressive performance under Martin O’Neill.
However, the alleged incidents surrounding the fixture have created a separate focus for police and supporters.
The arrest of the 23-year-old relates specifically to the alleged assault on the police officer after the match, while detectives continue investigating the earlier reported assault involving the 22-year-old.
Police Scotland has urged enquiries to continue as officers establish the full circumstances behind both incidents.
With footage of the pre-match confrontation circulating online, further developments could follow as investigators examine what happened and identify those potentially involved.
For now, one man has been arrested and charged, the injured officer has been released from hospital, and the separate investigation remains ongoing.
