Birmingham City have issued an official statement after reports emerged that a winding-up petition had been lodged against the club in the High Court.

The development attracted significant attention after it was reported that HSS ProService, a major supplier of tools, plant equipment, building materials and fuel through its digital marketplace, had taken legal action against the Championship club.
News of the petition quickly raised questions among supporters, but Birmingham have since moved to reassure fans that the issue has already been resolved and will not have any lasting consequences.
According to the club, they have now spoken directly with the company involved and reached an agreement that brings the matter to a close.
Reports Reveal Petition
Earlier in the day, The Business Desk reported that Birmingham City had been served with a winding-up petition by HSS ProService.
A winding-up petition is a legal process available to creditors who claim they are owed money and wish to recover an outstanding debt through the courts.
Under UK insolvency rules, a creditor can apply for such action if they are owed at least £750.
Applications are submitted to the High Court, where the case can proceed if the outstanding matter is not resolved.
Although such petitions often generate concern, they do not automatically mean a company is facing financial collapse.
In many cases, disputes are settled before any further legal proceedings take place.
Similar Situation Recently Involved Watford
The incident involving Birmingham follows a similar case that recently affected fellow Championship club Watford.
The Hornets were also served with a winding-up petition after a stewarding company alleged that payments remained outstanding.
That situation highlighted how commercial disputes can occasionally escalate into legal action before being resolved between the parties involved.
As with Birmingham, the existence of a petition did not necessarily indicate wider financial difficulties but rather reflected a disagreement over outstanding invoices.
Club Responds Quickly
Following the publication of the reports, Birmingham City moved swiftly to clarify their position.
The club explained that they had not received formal notification of the legal action before learning about it through media coverage.
Officials subsequently contacted the company responsible for the petition to establish exactly what had happened and to resolve any outstanding concerns.
According to Birmingham, discussions between both parties proved successful, with the issue now settled.
The club has confirmed that the notice will be withdrawn following the agreement.
Birmingham Explain the Cause
In their official response, Birmingham stated that the dispute centred on a limited number of invoices that were still undergoing standard reconciliation procedures.
The club explained that some payments had not yet been processed because supporting documentation was required before they could be approved.
According to Birmingham, requesting additional paperwork before releasing payment forms part of normal business practice and is designed to ensure all invoices are correctly verified.
The club stressed that the delay was administrative rather than the result of an unwillingness to settle legitimate payments.
Once communication took place between both organisations, the outstanding issues were resolved.
Official Statement Released
A Birmingham City spokesperson addressed the matter in a statement provided to BirminghamLive.
The club said it was disappointed to discover reports of a supposed winding-up petition through the media before receiving any official notification themselves.
Birmingham explained that they had not been formally served with legal documents and immediately sought clarification from the company involved after becoming aware of the reports.
The spokesperson also reiterated that the issue related only to a small number of invoices that remained under review while additional supporting documentation was being requested.
Following discussions with HSS ProService, both parties reached a resolution.
As a result, Birmingham confirmed that the petition will now be removed.
Matter Now Resolved
The club has been keen to emphasise that the issue has already been concluded and no further action is expected.
By reaching an agreement quickly, Birmingham have ensured the dispute does not develop into a prolonged legal matter.
The resolution also provides reassurance for supporters, many of whom were understandably concerned after learning about the initial reports.
Instead of becoming a wider financial issue, the disagreement appears to have been an isolated administrative matter involving invoice processing.
With both sides now satisfied, the legal notice is set to be withdrawn.
