Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has revealed that the club still expects to make between three and five more additions to Derek McInnes’ squad before the summer transfer window closes.

The Ibrox club has already been extremely active in the transfer market, with nine new players arriving ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Despite that sizeable recruitment drive, Cavenagh has indicated that Rangers’ business is far from complete.

Speaking at the club’s 2026 Shareholder Meeting, the Rangers chairman made it clear that supporters should expect further movement in the coming weeks.

Cavenagh was unwilling to give an exact figure for the number of players Rangers could still bring in, while he was similarly cautious when discussing potential departures from the current squad.

However, his suggestion that three to five more players could arrive represents a major indication of the scale of work that remains to be completed before the transfer deadline.

Rangers still have plenty of transfer business to complete

The Rangers hierarchy has already overseen a significant overhaul of the playing squad this summer, with McInnes benefiting from a number of new arrivals since taking charge.

Nine players have already joined the club, but the latest comments from Cavenagh suggest that the recruitment programme is not yet finished.

That will come as encouraging news to Rangers supporters who believe further strengthening is required in several areas of the team.

There is already movement behind the scenes, with Rangers reportedly progressing towards another major attacking addition.

The Ibrox side are said to be in advanced negotiations with PSV Eindhoven over a deal for winger Couhaib Driouech. The proposed transfer is understood to be worth approximately £7 million.

Should that move be completed, Driouech would become another significant addition to McInnes’ attacking options and would represent further evidence of Rangers’ intention to strengthen their squad considerably this summer.

At the other end of the transfer equation, Rangers could also see players leave before the window shuts.

Turkish club Corum FK are reportedly close to reaching an agreement to sign midfielder Mohamed Diomande, meaning there could be further departures alongside the expected arrivals.

The balance between incoming and outgoing transfers will therefore remain an important part of Rangers’ planning during the final stages of the window.

Rangers reject huge Chermiti offer

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Rangers in recent days has been the future of striker Youssef Chermiti.

The forward has attracted substantial interest after an impressive first season at Ibrox following his £8 million transfer from Everton.

Chermiti scored 15 goals in 41 appearances for Rangers, making a strong impression after arriving from Goodison Park.

His performances have now attracted the attention of Galatasaray, who reportedly tested Rangers’ resolve with a club-record offer worth £22 million.

Despite the size of the proposal, Rangers decided against accepting it.

The decision underlines how highly the Scottish club currently values Chermiti and suggests that he remains firmly part of McInnes’ plans despite the interest from Turkey.

The Rangers manager was asked about the club’s decision to turn down the bid and made no secret of his satisfaction with the outcome.

“The bid was rejected, which we were delighted about, even though it was a big number,” McInnes explained.

For Rangers, keeping Chermiti could prove to be just as important as adding new players during the remainder of the transfer window.

The striker’s goalscoring contribution last season demonstrated his value to the team, and losing him after just one campaign would have created another significant issue for McInnes to address.

Injury concern for Rangers striker

While Rangers have made it clear that Chermiti is not for sale at the current stage, the striker’s immediate availability is now a concern because of an injury suffered during a recent match.

Chermiti was forced to leave the field after planting his foot and feeling the impact of a challenge.

McInnes subsequently confirmed that the forward had been placed in a protective boot and was wearing a knee brace.

The Rangers manager revealed that Chermiti was due to undergo a scan to determine the seriousness of the injury.

“He’s left in a boot and his knee in the brace; we’ll get him scanned tomorrow,” McInnes said.

The manager will now be hoping that the scan delivers positive news and that the injury is not as serious as initially feared.

“Hopefully we have some luck on the scan tomorrow,” McInnes added.

The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate given the transfer interest surrounding the striker and Rangers’ plans for the new season.
